Since tomorrow is the end of the world, the Pit could use some good news (not too loudly). Look what the Secret Agent wrote on my entry:

What I liked: Starting with action, the multicultural characters, the present tense. I felt the author was able to get a lot—a sense of character, a dangerous scene, some back story—in few words.

What needed work: It was unclear whether this is the climax of the story and we were going to go back to see how the character found him/herself in this situation, or whether this is truly the beginning. I’m sure it would become clear as the story progressed.

I worried, too, that the situation bordered on cliché. I couldn’t help but think of THE HOBBIT, with a dragon guarding a treasure, trolls, and a main character without many unique skills.

Would I keep reading based on these sample pages? Yes.

Thanks, Kell & Cricket. Yeah, Kell, I rushed to the last line to see if she/he said "Yes" before I read the rest. LOL

Also, the cliche point is interesting, but as Ink can attest, the rest of the chapter definitely veers from cliche.
