Help me out, guys and gals... I need some titles from plain old mainstream fiction (no sci fi/fantasy/horror/whatever) where...

1) The book is written by a woman from the point of view of a man.

OR

2) The protagonist is physically disabled.

Either one. Preferably published within the last couple of decades.

Anyone? Anything?

Protags with physical disabilities:

Stones from the River, Ursula Hegi (this book is awesome times a thousand, btw)
Dive From Clausen's Pier, Ann Packer (also good)
Geek Love, Katherine Dunn (read it when i was 8, but i think i remember it being good)
Unusual Life of Tristan Smith, Peter Carey (haven't read it yet)
Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver (great!)
The Acorn People, Ron Jones (this is maybe a YA, but it is awesome)

will post more if i think of them. if you want to include YA or memoir/bio, i know about a billion more.

Books with male protagonist:

The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, but it's a mainstream thriller...

Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.

I can think of a YA writer, Christopher Pike, who often writes from a female pov. He's written a few adult books too.

I think Water for Elephants would qualify. Female author with a male protagonist, and for part of the book, he's physically disabled in a nursing home. Although, it could be a romance. I'm not 100% on the genre. Sorry.
