Can anyone out there recommend a good biography of Abraham Lincoln?

Carl Sandberg wrote the definitive biography of Lincoln, but it's HUGE. Nine volumes as I recollect. Gore Vidal wrote a fabulous fictional novel about Lincoln that's so well researched it might as well be a biography.

Both of these are excellent.

eta: I haven't read Alley's recommendation yet, but might have to.
