2010 FOX-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest

I just got an e-mail saying that the Third Annual Fox-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest is on. I submitted a script to the contest last year; it was a good experience, and I was hoping they'd do it again this year.

There's no entry fee, but they require the script be registered. That costs $20 with WGA.

They're accepting submissions starting June 1, and ending June 15 (or when they get 1,500 entries, whichever comes first; last year they didn't reach that number).

ETA: First prize is nothing to sneeze at: $25,000, plus a development deal.

I'm a bit new at this site. So, I'm learning the "ropes." Anyways, screenplay contest w/ no entry fees are always special. However, I can't write comedy -- yet. Know of any contest (no fees) for "serious" scripts?

Congratulations on completing such a thorough pilot package! as you know, it's a long shot, even for people already in the biz. Nothing ventured nothing gained, tho, right?

I think written queries are possibly the least effective. Better than nothing, but -- have you pitched in person yet? The Great American Pitch Fest is at the end of June; the Hollywood Screenwriters Expo is in October (I think), both in LA, both reputable and get a lot of producers to attend.

In addition, have you tried Virtual Pitch Fest? many of the same producers, companies, agents, and managers who attend the various LA pitch fests also take pitches on-line via VPF.

Last but not least -- People's Pilot! the contest closes in a couple of days, and it sounds like you are READY! there aren't many contests I'm aware of which actively seek out TV pilots, this one is pretty unique.

All the info you need about the PEOPLE'S PILOT, the contest for pilot scripts for your own new series ideas, including rules and prizes, is at http://peoplespilot.com All the info about the SPEC SCRIPTACULAR, which is for spec scripts written for MOWS (read, "screenplays") andcurrent or recent TV series, including rules and prizes, is at http://specscriptacular.comGood luck!

FREE COMPETITION: The Showbizzle.com Writer Search

Announcing the showbizzle.com Writer Search!

showbizzle.com, the digital showcase and destination website for emerging talent, is looking for new writers to become part of our creative team. The showbizzle.com Writer Search is an open competition to discover and promote talented writers who are looking to have their material produced.

Here's how the showbizzle.com Writer Search works:
- We've posted five character prompts on our site: check them out here
- Choose your favorite prompt, or two, or even five!
- Write a 90-120 second monologue for each prompt you chose (500 words or less)
- Email your monologue(s) to [email protected] - we'll post them on the site, then allow showbizzle.com members to select, or "Like", the monologues they want to see showbizzle.com produce!

Monologues should be written in the conversational style of showbizzle.com's web series, Janey's Blog: your characters should be speaking to Janey. To get a better sense of how the Janey's Blog monologues work, scan the samples at http://showbizzle.com/monologues, and view the "blogisodes" they spawned at http://showbizzle.com/janeysblog!
________________________________________________________________________

Who can submit:

All residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C. 18 years or older.
________________________________________________________________________

Submission Details:

The Submission Period begins at 12:01 a.m. PST on June 15th, 2010, and ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on July 20th, 2010. After all entries have been received, all eligible submissions will be posted on the showbizzle.com Writer Search page in the order they were received.*

You may submit an entry for as many of the five characters as you choose, but only one monologue/entry per character.

Submit your entries via email to [email protected], preferably as PDF files.
________________________________________________________________________

Selection Details:

After the Submission Period, monologues will be posted on showbizzle.com during the First Selection Round, when Members will be able to register which ones they "Like" best. Anyone can view the monologues, but only showbizzle.com Members can "Like" them, and they can only do so once per monologue.

The writer of the most "Liked" monologue for each character will automatically advance to the Final Selection Round. The other Finalists will be chosen by the Showbizzle Selection Team based on the quality and originality of the submission.

The FIRST SELECTION ROUND begins at 12:01 a.m. PST on July 21st, 2010 and ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on July 29th, 2010. Finalists will be announced on or about July 30th, 2010. This will open the Final Selection Round, which will close on August 8th, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Then, on or about August 9th, 2010, we'll announce the the Members' Choice and showbizzle.com Choice writers!
________________________________________________________________________

Members' Choice? showbizzle.com Choice? Say what?

showbizzle.com's competitions are skill-based, but we care deeply about our Members' opinions, so in the end we designate both the Members' Choice and the showbizzle.com Choice. In this case, there can be a Members' Choice and a showbizzle.com Choice for each of the five characters - up to ten in all!

The Members' Choice is decided by showbizzle.com Members: the most "Liked" entry, wins!

The showbizzle.com Choice is determined by the showbizzle.com Selection Team, and is based on the quality and originality of the submission, as well as its use of the character prompt. Can one entry be named both the Members' Choice and the showbizzle.com Choice? But of course!
_________________________________________________________________________
THE PERKS:

- showbizzle.com Choice Perks:
1. $50 Cash
2. Your monologue will be used as the "sides" (script) for one or more subsequent showbizzle.com acting auditions. Translation: you'll get exposure, and will hopefully see your monologue performed onscreen by a number of actual human actors!
3. A featured spot on showbizzle.com as a showbizzle Favorite
4. Promotion on our site, and via Facebook and Twitter.

- Members' Choice Perks:
1. A featured spot on showbizzle.com as a showbizzle Fan Favorite
2. Promotion on our site, and via Facebook and Twitter

Submit to the Search and show us what you got!

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. This is a skill-based contest open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C. 18 years and older. Void where prohibited.

Just got an e-mail about the Fourth Annual Fox-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest.

There's no entry fee, although they do require scripts to be registered. First prize is pretty amazing: $25,000 plus a development deal with Fox.

I've entered (and failed) the past two years; hoping to enter again this year, if I can get a script done in time. It's open to scripts for both regular and animated shows. (I've failed with one of each.) For me, it was a very worthwhile experience to write the scripts (though it would have been nice to at least make it into the 20 finalists). If you don't win, all rights revert to the writer a month after the contest concludes. (I've sent one of my failures elsewhere, where it will most likely also fail.)

So, just an FYI.

Sorry to sound cynical (actually I'm not sorry in the slightest) but you're advertising a competition with a first prize that is ten times greater than the late entry fee and 17 times greater than the normal fee. Do you not think this sounds like more a money-making exercise for the organisers than anything else? If they get 1000 entries at USD30 a pop they're making close to USD30,000 profit. Do you think they're after great scripts or your money?

I'm entering this. I love comedy and always had a desire to do stand-up. Began writing doing screenplays and teleplays so this ought to be damn fun! Plenty of time to develop for this:)

Come join the celebration of great film and great stories at the 16th annual Nantucket Film Festival and Screenplay Competition!

The screenplay competition provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in the Screenwriters Colony, an annual month-long retreat where writers are encouraged to find their voice and push the boundaries of their craft under the guidance of established film professionals, an all-expense paid trip to the Festival in June, and a $5,000 cash prize. All competition finalists are invited to a Mentor's Brunch where they can discuss their projects with NFF's annual Screenwriters Tributee. The deadline for screenplay submissions is March 11.

Nantucket Film Festival will be from June 22-June 26, 2011.

Filmaka's Harbor Freight Tools Pitch Contest

You could win $14,000 for making less than 60 seconds of film in Harbor Freight Tools' commercial pitch competition. They're running a contest through filmaka.com to find ideas for commercials that will drive traffic to their stores and website. 10 pitches will win $500. Harbor Freight's goal is to produce up to three of the 10 pitches into commercial spots and air them on cable, network TV and online – a potential audience of millions. Those three winning pitches will each receive a $12,000 production budget, plus a $1,500 bonus for the writer-director. Including the $500 semi-finalist prize, that's a total of $14,000. Pitches are due Monday, April 4, 2011. Go to Filmaka.com/harborfreight to learn more
