TotalRecall Publications, Inc. / Ultimate Hero Contest

Does anyone know anything about Total Recall Press, Inc? The website is: www.totalrecallpress.com They've been around since 2002 from what I can tell and up to recently were focused mainly on non-fiction (textbooks, computer & technical pubs) and only recently started a fiction line.

I couldn't find anything about them here or on P&E.

    Many thanks!

    Mike

I just heard from a writer who got a contract offer from Total Recall, and told me that if you want editing, you have to pay for it.

Then they picked a horrible URL--if your name is TotalRecall Publications, having the URL "totalrecallpress" is bound to lead to confusion.

Aye. Probably thought totalrecallpublications too long/difficult to parse.

    Ultimate Hero Contest

I just got pinged by the organizer through LinkedIn. Anyone heard anything about this one? From the looks of the website, my first reaction is "Oh, HELL no!"

The top 12 to 32 Hero entries for each Genre, as selected by our judges, may proceed to further contest rounds with additional requirements. The requirements for subsequent rounds must be met by the contestants in order to maintain eligibility for any awards.
Additional requirements to be announced later.

    I just bet there are.

    AWARDS
The Grand Prize winner of each Genra is Guaranteed a no cost Publisher Contract.
As in any computation there are winners and those who do not make the cut. Our goal is to make every contestant a winner by providing feedback on your skills.

Winners of the Ultimate Hero Contest are guaranteed to receive a Trophy and a no cost publishing contract for their completed work. Other participants may also receive awards.
I don't know what a "Genra" is, and I was a little thrown to discover that "computations" were involved. But, hey, I'm a sucker for a Trophy.

Never trust a writing contest that promises winners a publishing contract.

I wonder how Travis Tea would do in this contest?
From the "How it Works" section:
Amateur Writers, Editors, Professional Writers, Novelist, Magazine Writers, Blogger, Newspaper Writer, Author Agents, Publishers, Printers, Resellers, Advertisers, Translators, Graphic Designers, and Reviewers will now be able to team up with an Author to get their work published.
    Huh?

The URL is registered to TotalRecall Publications, the subject of a thread here.

    Merged.

And the reward for slogging through the Book Contest page is:

WHO HOLDS THE COPYRIGHT TO THE WORK?
The Author of the work will transfer all copyright, publication and distribution worldwide right to Ultimate Hero Contest when they Register as an Author.

At the end of the competition each participating contest author who does not receive a publication and distribution contract will receive all rights returned to them.
    Um, yeeeeah.

    Updating URL: http://totalrecallpress.org/

Although still linked from their home page, they dropped the Ultimate Hero contest when they revamped their site early '14. Current push is for their shared-world series set in Disney parks: Mouse Gate Adventure Books (http://mousegates.com/)
