I saw an interesting post on the Paying Markets board:

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2895929&posted=1#post2895929

Some of the statements rang alarm bells such as:
Do not forget that being a writer for PartyDigest.com means that you are now considered a member of National Journalist of Eminent Standing with NATIONAL ACCREDITATION and can now attend those functions where only members of the press are allowed in.

Then I noticed the exact same post spammed all over Craiglist and got curious. Some quick research on the PR person revealed that she's also a PA author...er, Author. Why did it come as no surprise?

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookSearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&isbn=1413796613#TABS

At the very least, I guess she learned some PA-style promo speak. I think I'm gonna apply for the position just so I can be a National Journalist of Eminent Standing. Can't wait to get that NATIONAL ACCREDITATION that gets me into all those exclusive press events.

Sigh . . . clicked through to her 'business' website.

Now, I know the occasional typo gets past the best of us. However, someone who is hawking themself to me as a publicist, editor, ghostwriter, and general all-around marketing guru needs to know the differences between a plural and a possessive.

I'm sure the talented editors at PA edited her book sufficiently enough as to assure those same mistakes didn't grace her novel.

Oh, that's a third-party seller. There's always someone trying to sell a book for an outlandish price. An out-of-print book of mine is going for $598.78 on Amazon. I hope it's a mistake.

ETA: Her book is in stock at Amazon for $11.95.

Oh no, it won't make you a National Journalist of Eminent Standing. It will make you a MEMBER of National Journalist of Eminent Standing.

I've never heard of that particular organization, but that NATIONAL ACCREDITATION sounds like a lot of fun. And I'm sure, say, the White House is going to be thrilled to recognize your very important and exclusive PartyDigest.com credentials.

I covered a national party nominating convention once. I was news director for a radio station in the city where it was held, and believe me, it was a pain in the tail to get credentialed. I had to have press ID from the state, photo press ID from the city PD (both of which most working press would have had at the time), a note on station letterhead from the guy at the top confirming that they were sending me, plus an application for credentials. Took them several weeks to decide I was legit. It wouldn't surprise me if a rudimentary background check was involved.

If I'd waltzed in without their credentials I would have been escorted off the premises either by security or the Secret Service. There were many highly visible agents, and probably quite a few that were not so visible. These people were serious about security. I don't think PartyDigest.com creds would have gotten me to the metal detector.

LMAO, that woman was hired, yes hired, by a now-defunct epublisher. Chippewa/Lady Aibell hired her about two months before going under and when I went to her site and saw PA, I was horrified. It cinched my decision to request I be released from my contract with Lady Aibell that same day. As it turned out, they folded fast a month and a half later.

Ugh. I was damned if a PA author was going to be going anywhere near *my* novel.

In my defense, when I initially submitted to Lady Aibell, more than 11 months prior to their closing, there were no smoke signals. I did my research. Ugh again. Thank god I got out of there, and my book now has a shiny, *good* home with Ellora's cave.

I can't believe she's still around hawking her useless wares. The woman was beyond offensively ignorant about any and all things publishing/writing related.
