    Question [Contest] FieldReport True Stories

Anyone know anything about this? I happened across the website this morning (http://www.fieldreport.com/contests) and...I dunno. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems not quite right.

They retain rights forever and ever amen, so that's off-putting, but even beyond that...again, I dunno. Anyone have more information? I searched around and all I could find were several contest anouncements on various sites; here's the one on AW: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/...ht=Fieldreport.

    Thoughts??

I'm in the process of doing a blog post about FieldReport, and will post a link when it's done.

The short version: contest winners must surrender copyright, and simply submitting to the site grants a sweeping menu of rights which may encumber not just the submitted work, but future work, if it's derived from or related to the submitted work.

    Read the About Us page.

Several friends from a Poker site put this together. And they all live in San Francisco. If their bios are to be believed, some may have made money from the dot-coms, but that's not at all clear.

While I fully believe publishing is gambling, that's taking it a little too far!

Site is currently "under construction", and looks like it's been so for some time.

As I recall a couple of years ago one of the guys suffered a personal tragedy and since then the site has been in limbo.
