This may be a weird one, but I'd like to share it anyway.

After going through some insane life altering events that ended in multiple deaths, I was diagnosed with PTSD just two months ago.

If anyone has any questions about PTDS or what flashbacks are like or if you want to hear some first hand experience, I'd actually be happy to share. Some of my responses are textbook (like reliving the event if triggered) other responses are unique and specialized to me (like suddenly becoming insanely and unhealthy obsessed with death). Believe it or not, I prefer not to tell the people in my everyday life that I was diagnosed, but I would still like to talk about it with someone. I think that helping fellow writers would make me feel more comfortable with this. If anyone wants some first hand descriptions of PTSD, Im more than happy to help you out.

I don't think I know much about anything in particular but always happy to help if anybody needs it. Not sure whether any of these things will ever appear in any novels but... I volunteer for the Butterfly Conservation in the UK so know a fair bit about butterflies (UK species), leading on from that - I spend a lot of time in the English countryside, particularly the south west so if anybody decides to set a novel there I can help. I'm a coeliac, so know all about symptoms and diagnosis and all sorts of other stuff related to that.

I'm a soon-to-retire university historian.

Specialist areas: nineteenth-century France, twentieth-century Spain (especially Spanish Civil War), and - to a lesser extent - Israel/Palestine.

On a more personal level, I'm a widower. Plenty of experience involving coping with sudden bereavement.

Willing to help or chat.

I'm finishing up my Masters in psychology, so I have a surprisingly broad spectrum of knowledge in everything from clinical psychology and mental illnesses to cognitive psychology and neuroscience. If anyone can use any advice in those areas, I'm more than happy to help. =)

Figured I'd post in here instead of just occasionally reviewing the forum! :) Hope I can help if anyone needs help with these weird things:

Epidemiology and Biostatistics (my PhD focus)
Infectious Diseases (what I concentrate my epi/biostat interests in, anything from Zika to TB to e.coli)
Mathematics
Biology/Microbiology/Lab techniques
Medicine, including meds and drugs

Other randoms:
The running of a radio station, primarily small town, including live shows, recorded shows, advertising, advertising sales...
Gluten free/Celiac disease anythings
IQ tests
ADHD testing, and other mental "things" like depression, ocd,
A weird form of OCD called "scrupulosity." The Catholic disease!

And... probably other things.

When it comes to academia, I specialize in two areas: biochemistry and primate evolution.

When it comes to historical interest, I have three: Roman, Ottoman, and science.

When it comes to specializing in a particular obsession: Bornean orangutans, Samar spitting cobra, and Virgil. :poke:

Okay, here's my shot in the dark.

I have an odd mix of knowledge bases, but for what it's worth, I currently work in technical theatre. I am a lighting technician, and have been for several years, now. I also have a mash-up of knowledge on how things are made, and used, in the middle ages. Paper and fabric are two topics I have done immense research on, from a middle-ages standpoint.

I would say, if you have a theatre in your novel, and you want to check something, I'm here to help! I have some experience as a singer/actor/dancer, but not much, and I am an able-bodied at-home cook.

I also excel in praise for minor achievements, as one must be around children, and being overly-critical of my own work, as well as hiding from responsibility, and dodging uncomfortable topics (though, to be fair, it's just something I do, not something I know how to do).

go n-éirí an bóthar leat

ps - I am a gay man that grew up in a very loving home, if you need references about that. I wouldn't call myself 'normal' but a lot of my friends are, and I can tell you about them.
