pink floyd - "dogs" (album: animals)

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.

And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
Dragged down by the stone.

I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And everythings done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.

Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a pat on the back
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Who was dragged down by the stone.

She Sang the Red River Valley

She Sang the Red River Valley by Reckless Kelly (Live at Stubbs Album)

At General Delivery she picks up her mail
Her momma says Johnny just got out of jail
She hopes he don't know where she's at
How could she have ever loved that kind of cat

She remembers the dance in the moonlight
From the Hall to the back of his car
He taught her how to drink whiskey
Three chords on a pawn shop guitar

She remembers the first time he kissed her
Back when the feeling was new
And she sang the Red River Valley
For the cowboy who loved her so true

She's working each night at what she knows best
Hanging in bars with professional guests
She picks up a young buckaroo
Because he reminds of her of someone she knew

The telephone rings off the hook by her bed
The other ends Johnny with a gun to his head
He said "You always looked good in black"
The next thing she heard was a bone chilling crack

She pulls into town just at sunrise
Her momma has strong coffee on
She said "You know he's always been crazy
It's best for us all that he's gone."

So at the request of the family
A service was held for a few
And she sang the Red River Valley
For the cowboy who loved her so true

She remembered the dance in the moonlight
From the Hall to the back of his car
He taught her how to drink whiskey
Three chords on a pawn shop guitar

She remembered the first time he kissed her
Back when the feeling was new
And she sang the Red River Valley
From the cowboy who loved her so true

(my all time favorite song)

People Are Strange - The Doors

Thanks bunches! I must admit, I too am a loyal subject of the great Lizard King!

I plan to buy a good PF album as soon as I can scrape up some cash. I'm in a kind of "college music" kick right now, but I still have a few *cough*burned*cough* albums of older music I listen to, more than a few of them have Floyd, the Who, the Doors, Led Zeppelin and so on and so forth on them. It's so great to find kindred sprits. Here's another great Pink Floyd tune:

On the Turning Away - Pink Floyd

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it's shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

So am I! I love that man! Mmmm..Yummy!

I know someone who looks just like him. I'll have to send you a couple pictures of this guy one day. You'll freak at the resemblance.

Have you read any of his poetry? There's a few books of his writings. If you haven't, when you can, pick up The American Night: The Writings of Jim Morrison, volumes 1 & 2.

Here's a link to a VERY good Jim Morrison tribute:

Tears of the Dragon, Bruce Dickinson

For too long now, there were secrets in my mind
For too long now, there were things I should have said
In the darkness...i was stumbling for the door
To find a reason - to find the time, the place, the hour

Waiting for the winter sun, and the cold light of day
The misty ghosts of childhood fears
The pressure is building, and I can’t stay away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Where I was, I had wings that couldn’t fly
Where I was, I had tears I couldn’t cry
My emotions frozen in an icy lake
I couldn’t feel them until the ice began to break

I have no power over this, you know I’m afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I’m slipping away...

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Slowly I awake, slowly I rise
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I’m slipping away...

I throw (I throw)
Myself (myself)
Into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face (to face)
The fear (the fear)
I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

I throw (I throw)
Myself (myself)
Into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face (to face)
The fear (the fear)
I once believed,
The Tears of the dragon, for you and for me

After reading the Doors stuff, I had to put on my fav. Doors song. PEACE FROG...

Oh yes! Peace Frog! Love it!

Light my Fire -- The Doors

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire

Working on the assumption that the last music I played is the song that's stuck in my head since yesterday, it's The Darkness' "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman, Mother----er" (I know, so little class!), which is first-rate exercise material. You gotta move! Plus the guy's voice is, in a word, freakadelic.

I just listened to this song, but you Canadians don't think for a minute this has anything to do with Texas not taking over!

:flag:

I know you think that I shouldn't still love you,
Or tell you that.
But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it
where's the sense in that?

I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were

I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

I know I left too much mess and
destruction to come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "it's over"
then I'm sure that that makes sense

I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on....

I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

Just got home from a road trip. Last song:

IN THE SHELTER Jimmy Buffett

In the shelter, in the morning as
the sun was brightly gleaming,
I heard her crying out,
"What is it all about? I just don't know,
but I can't go back home."

Lonely princess, all the days out
on your own are growing empty.
Nothin' is goin' well; if you
could only tell them how you feel.
But they're too real to understand.

Too many trite expressions ending in
forced rejection long ago.
Too many innocent faces in too many
far-out places; something's wrong.

Let me tell you that something's wrong.
It's been that way so long, and it's a shame.

On the street car to the city,
where she knows that she may lose it all,
riding for just a dime,
takin' her own sweet and knowing well
that this could be her final fall,
past the boutique, down the alley,
to the river, people pass her by.
She sits on the big grey rocks;
takes off her boots and socks,
not knowing what she will do next;
just starts to cry.

To many small suggestions ending in
angry questions from her dad.
To many TV dinners; ah, everyone
loves a winner, but she has lost.
No ones knows the trials she had.

In the shelter, in the morning as
the sun was brightly gleaming,
I heard her crying out,
"What is it all about? I just
don't know, but I can't go back home."
Hell, I just don't know, but
I can't go back home.

Ingrid's You Promised Me (or Tu M'As Promis). What a catchy tune, perfect for a top down, breezy day!

You promised me
Just me and you

You promised me the moon and the
sun, the birds in the sky
You promised me a wonderful life, they were only lies
You promised me all diamonds and pearls that I never got
You promised me red roses and gold but soon you forgot

[Chorus]

You promised me
Just me and you

You promised me I could be your queen and you’d be my king
You promised me a white wedding dress, where is the ring?
You promised me your tender caress your kisses at night
So try to show it wasn’t in vein coz I’m wasting my time

[Chorus]

You promised me
Just me and you

Tu Es Foutu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu Es Foutu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu

I don’t know what to do with my life
But I know my rule is no second chance
You promised me
You promised me
You promised me

Tu Es Foutu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu Es Foutu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu
Tu tu tu tu tu tu

You promised me
Tu Es Foutu
You promised me
Tu Es Foutu

Wires by Athlete. It's a very poignant track with lyrics that relate to a very traumatic time in my life.

You got wires, going in
You got wires, coming out of your skin
You got tears, making tracks,
I got tears, that are scared of the fact

Running down corridors through,
automatic doors
Got to get to you
Got to see this through
I seen hope is here
In a plastic box
I've seen christmas lights, reflect in your eyes

You got wires, going in
You got wires, coming out of your skin
There's dry blood, on your wrist
Your dry blood, On my fingertip

Running down corridors through,
automatic doors
got to get to you
got see this through

First night of your life
Curled up on your own
Looking at me now
You would never know

I see it in your eyes
I see it in your eyes
You'll be alright

I see it in your eyes
I see it in your eyes
You'll be alright

Alright...

Running down corridors through,
automatic doors
Got to get to you
Got to see this through
I see hope is here
In a plastic box
I've seen Christmas lights reflect in your eyes

Running down corridors through,
automatic doors
Got to get to you
Got to see this through
First night of your life
Curled up on your own
Looking at you now
You would never know

Just heard this in my truck on the way here...

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah,
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's ****ed up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah
Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone...

My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors

Just fun stuff...

Well you should see my story-reading baby, you should hear the things that she says,
She says "Hon, drop dead, I'd rather go to bed with Gabriel Garcia Marquez."

Cuddle up with William S. Burrows, leave on the light for Bell Hooks,
I've been flirtin' with Pierre Burton 'cause he's so smart in his books

I like to go out dancing,
My baby loves a bunch of authors
My heart's so broke and bleedin'

Baby's just sitting there
doing some reading

So I started watching some TV, played my new cd player too,
She said: "Turn it off or I'll call the cops and I'll throw the book at you."
All this arguing made me get dizzy, called my doctor to come have a look
I said: "Doctor hurry!" He said:
"Don't worry, I'll be over when I finish my book"

I like to go out dancing,
My baby loves a bunch of authors
We've been livin in hovels
Spendin' all our money on
brand new novels

So I got myself on a streetcar and it drove right into someone,
You know the driver said:
"I was lookin' straight ahead!"
But he was reading the Toronto Sun

So my honey and me go to a counsellor to help figure out what we need
She said: "We'll get your love growing,
but before we get going, here's some books I'd like you to read."

I like to go out dancing,
My baby loves a bunch of authors
Lately we've had some fricton
'Cause my baby's hooked on
short works of fiction

So we split and went to a party, some friends my girl said she knew
But what a sight 'cause it's authors night and the place looks like a who's who

Now I'm pounding the ouzo
with Mario Puzo

Who's a funny fella?
W.P. Kinsella

Who brought the cat?
Would Margeret Atwood?

Who needs a shave?
He's Robertson Davies!

Ondaatje started a food fight, salmon mousse all over the scene
Spilled some dressing on Doris Lessing, these writer types are a scream!

I like to go out dancing,
My baby loves a bunch of authors
We'll be together for ages
Eatin' and Sleepin' and
Turnin' pages.

Angry all the Time by Bruce Robison

Note this is the recording by the person who actually wrote the song and released it first.....not Tim McGraw. (who I personally cannot stand)

Here we are what is left of a husband and a wife
With four young kids who have a way with getting on with their lives
I'm not old but I'm getting a whole lot older every day
It's too late to keep from going crazy, I've got to get away.

The reason that I can't stay don't have a thing to do with being in love
I understand that loving a man shouldn't have to be this rough
You aint the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time

Our boys are strong now, the spitting image of you when you were young
I hope someday they can see past what you have become
And I remember every time I said I'd never leave
But what I can't live with are memories of the way you used to be

The reason that I can't stay don't have a thing to do with being in love
I understand that loving a man shouldn't have to be this rough
You aint the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time

Twenty years have came and left since I walked out of your door
I never quite made it back to the one I was before
And God it hurts me to think of you before the light in your eyes was gone
Sometimes I don't know why this old world can't leave well enough alone

The reason that I can't stay don't have a thing to do with being in love
I understand that loving a man shouldn't have to be this rough
You aint the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time.

Gavin DeGraw, Belief:

Belief
Makes things real
Makes things feel
Feel alright
Belief
Makes things true
Things like you
You and I
Tonight, you arrested my mind
When you came to my defense
With a knife
In the shape of your mouth
In the form of your body
With the wrath of a god
Oh, you stood by me
Belief
Builds from scratch
Doesn't need to relax
It doesn't need space
Long live the queen and I'll be the king
In the collar of grace
Tonight, you arrested my mind
When you came to my defense
With a knife
In the shape of your mouth
In the form of your body
With the wrath of a god
Oh, you stood by me
Belief
I'm going to yell it from the rooftops
I'll wear a sign on my chest
That's the least I can do
Tonight, you arrested my mind
When you came to my defense
With a knife
In the shape of your mouth
In the form of your body
With the wrath of a god
Oh, you stood by me
Tonight, you arrested my mind
When you came to my defense
With a knife
In the shape of your mouth
In the form of your body
With the wrath of a god
Oh, you stood by me
And I'll stand by my
Belief

A new fan

You know how, once every five or ten years, you pick up a book by someone you've never heard of and become an immediate fan because it's so good? And how you realize that you have to own the author's entire catalog?

I sat in the car three hours ago, radio on, listening to the last half of a song so attention-grabbing I felt kicked between the legs. Except it didn't hurt. Soulful rock, like Joe Cocker on his best day. They went straight to commercial afterwards, and the announcer didn't name the artist. Dammit! Thankfully, there's the web. The station has a site that lists recently played songs. Yes!

Based on half a song, I am now a Marc Broussard fan.

Home

Rolling down the road
Going no where
Guitar packed in the trunk
Somewhere round mile marker 112
Papa started hummin the funk
I gotta jones in my bones before we know
We were singing this melody
Stop the car pulled out the guitar
Halfway to New Orleans

Said take me home
Take me home

Could feel the sun about to rise
When I realized we ad nothing to fear
It's just me and my daddy and a kid named Cope
Making music that nobody would hear
And then the sun let up and it split the night

Said take me home
Take me home
Said take me home
Said take me home

This greyhound is delta bound mama
Baby boy done finally found
Said this greyhound is delta bound mama
Said take me home

Hot damn you should have felt the groove
Like I was swimming in a sea of soul
The sun was rising and the day was hot
And we was all about to lose control
My daddy turned his face up towards the sky
And I knew that there was nothing to lose
I felt the crow breathe in and I closed my eyes
And we disappeared into the groove

Said take me home
Said take me home
Take me home
Said take me home

Straight from the water
Straight from the water children
[repeat]
You don't know nothing about this

Take me home
Said take me home
[repeat]

TOLD ME A STORY YESTERDAY
ABOUT THE SWEET LOVE BETWEEN THE MOON AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
AND WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR HER TO LEAVE SHE SPREAD HER WINGS HIGH OVER ME
AND SAID I SHALL RETURN TOMORROW

AND I SAID FLY ON MY SWEET ANGEL
FLY ON THROUGH THE SKY
FLY ON MY SWEET, SWEET ANGEL
TOMORROW I SHALL HAVE YOU BY MY SIDE

SURE ENOUGH THIS MORNIN' CAME TO ME
SILVER WINGS SILHOUETTED AGAINST THE GOLDEN ROSE OF TODAY'S SUNRISE
AND THE ANGEL SHE BENT DOWN AND TOLD ME
YOU'LL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS PLACE JUST WIPE YOUR WEEPIN' EYES
I'LL TAKE YOU WHERE YOU'VE NEVER BEEN, YOU CAN FLY
I LOOKED AROUND AND I THOUGHT

FLY ON MY LITTLE ANGEL
FLY ON THROUGH THE SKY
FLY ON MY SWEET ANGEL
TOMORROW I'LL BE BY YOUR SIDE
I GOT MY WINGS TO FLY
