Thread: Promotion Question

    Promotion Question

I'm working on an advice book for women with disordered eating and image issues--I myself am recovered from both bulimia and anorexia, and I have a professional, previously-published co-author.

For my book proposal, my agent has told me that it'd be helpful for me to get my name and my project out there a little more, through the website, blog, and message board I've set up.

Right now I'm exchanging links, e-mailing the list of contacts I've been developing, etc.--but do any of you have any advice on how I can go about doing this a little better?

    Message Board:

    Thanks in advance!!!

Are you on Technorati and Feedburner yet?

Both of them make your blog greatly more accessible, and far too many people make the mistake of not using them.

I worked with a book on ED recovery last year. I see you're in a couple of the ED communities on LiveJournal already. I'd encourage you to get involved in some more of them -- definitely avoiding the pro-ED communities, unless you feel up to taking them on, though.

There are also quite a few very helpful websites and organizations out there who would probably be willing to give you some support.

If you send me a private message, I'll give you information about the author I worked with so that you can check out her blog, too.

I found it helpful to syndicate articles I've written for my own website. A few of them were picked up by major sites, and that's added to my visibility.

If you're not familiar with syndication, I can write some more about it.

I also sent you a PM with another thought.

Arche, I would like to learn more about syndication. You can post or PM me.

    Thank you so much.

    Thumbs up Much Success!

I have to agree with Arche to begin
    writing and submitting articles. As
well, turn many of your articles into
    press releases.

This is the most cost effective and
long term method to generate results
as you begin to brand yourself as an
    expert in this topic.

I agree with your agent. Many of us
sorta wait and wait and wait before
jumping into the water. Now it's
    time to get. LOL

May I make one suggestion with your
website. I'm liking it! Add a form on
your site to allow people to subscribe
    to you newsletter.

You have to bank on the distractions of
life and laziness of life as well. Too many
steps people tend to move on without

    Much success!

The best advice I can suggest is that your website, blog, everything you put online has to represent content, not your name and you as a writer. Let face it, at this point hardly anyone is going to access any of your sites because of your name--at least not yet. However, if your online presence stresses a specific theme people may well click it on. In time, your name and works wll become known and you will develop a following. For instance (a poor example) you could dwell upon "Solving Female Real Life Problems." That's your hook. That's how you get wide exposure and link up with a bunch of other sites on a reciprocal and/or recommended basis.
