I saw Project X on Monday with my girlfriend... She seemed to love it, but I didn't see anything special in it. Sure, it was fun and had some 'wtf?' moments, but it was an otherwise paper-thin plot...

Then again, I guess I've never been a fan of the "day in the life" kinda movies... It took me several viewings to like Napoleon Dynamite, for goodness sake!

I ahte movies like this. It seemed to take all the worst parts about Superbad and the Hangover and leave the film even more lazily executed. For petes sake, the filmmakers didn't even name the movie...

The House by the Cemetery. Truly dreadful made-for-TV 70s horror. No discernible plot. A highly annoying child whose voice I am 95% sure was dubbed by an adult woman. I made it to the end... and still had no idea what was going on.

John Carter - Unlike every reviewer I've read, I thought it was absolutely fantastic and enjoyed it unreservedly. I went in with relatively low expectations but was very pleasantly surprised when (for me at least) they absolutely nailed it. FWIW, neither Finding Nemo nor Wall-E (both from the same director) did much for me. I'll be curious to see how it does at the box office. The other fanboys and girls on the way out of the theater seemed to like it about as well as I did so mmmmaybe it's got a reasonable shot at making back the $250,000,000 (!!!) production costs. I hope so. I'd love to see a sequel.

FWIW, I saw the Imax 3d version. I thought the 3d was pretty good, but the Imax part didn't impress me much.

Hi,

Can I join in?

I saw High Noon today, for the first time. Wish I'd seen it much earlier.

Many lessons in it for scriptwriters or just writers, especially about how to build up the antagonist. enjoyable too.

I sat down and watched Zach and Miri Make a Porno last night. I was surprised that I actually liked it.

I watched Paddy Considine's directorial debut,Tyrannosaur, over the weekend. My, what a tough watch! Brilliantly acted and directed, however. It's grim and gritty and bears no relation to films such as Jurassic Park or anything of that ilk.

Think I need something a bit more lighthearted next.

Starship Troopers. That movie is way smarter than I remembered, seems good material to explain some things about media and public opinion theory to a college class if they ever make me professor.

Reminds me a movie I saw as a kid about people trapped in a mysterious house which at the end happened to be just little robots inside a girl's dollhouse in the future. I shall never forget it ended with the sign: "THIS MOVIE IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS... THAT HAVE YET TO HAPPEN!"

We saw "Paul" the other night (with the guys from Shawn of the Dead), and laughed our asses off.

If you're into conspiracy theories, X-files, UFOs, and Comic-Con, you must see this movie.

Cronos - One of Guillermo del Toro's early movies. When a 400 year old alchemist dies his clockwork scarab ends up in the hands (heh-heh) of an antiques dealer. Wackiness ensues. They had me at any one of "Guillermo del Toro," "Ron Perlman" or "400 year old alchemist." I can see why this ended up in the criterion collection and I did enjoy it, but my world was not completely rocked.

I saw Attack the Block again. You really owe it to yourself to catch this one. Low budget brilliance of an alien invasion movie. I can't recommend it enough.

I agree, saw it last night. It's a really enjoyable movie. I just love the idea of an alien invasion running into the combined forces and know-how of a gang of Sarf London hoodies. Well worth a watch.

Saw John Carter on the Net and thought it was okay, but like all the movies of that genre, they always have to have at least one shot with the hero jumping off a cliff or tank or something else in slo-mo. Read the novels as a boy and that's where this flick should have stayed. Good in a way, but not great.

Megamind, with my children. I didn't think I'd like it and I despise Will Ferrell as an actor in most of his movies, but as a voice actor, he's brilliant. Who cares if the movie is somewhat derivative? It's still a lot of fun.

"Oh, my giant blue head!"

I swear, I'll never say another bad word about Michael Jackson again.

The Separation: set in Teheran, won Best foreign language Oscar. She wants to leave Iran, for some unspecified other place (Dubai, maybe?) so their daughter can have a better chance at life. He won't emigrate as his dad has Alzheimer's/ google it, its great.
