Some helpful (I hope anyway) advice about Google:

If you know the lyrics to a song but not the words, google for a phrase in the song that you know FOR SURE IS RIGHT (ex., "nurse is selling poppies from a tray"), and when you enter the phrase in the search addy bar, PUT QUOTES AROUND IT so that ONLY the exact phrase will come up. Now I know this may not work in every case, but I've had some good success in finding the names of songs based on my faulty memory of part of the lyric using this method. (There are even databases for misunderstood lyrics, or so I understand. haha!)

So, using the above example-- I remember that phrase from a song. Where have I heard it before? I turn to my old friend Google and simply type in (without the quotes) "nurse selling poppies from a tray" and quickly find out that the song is (of course) the Beatles' "Penny Lane". Ok so that's enough, luckily for me.

I did some searching for the "grandpa in rocking chair" song noted in the last reply, however, and got nothing. You may have to do more searching for some lyrics from older or less popular songs. There are a number of sites where you can submit lyric/phrase search requests, however, so all is not lost!

Don Neilson on the album "Based on a true story". It is called :World to me". I know how frustrating it can be not finding a song we'd like to. So here is my contribution!

I haven't heard it for more than a few years. I'm sure I used to hear it on a country radio station, or an easy listening radio station... but I've called both, gave them what I could recall of the lyrics and I was told by both places that it didn't sound like anything they played. (Then again, it was SUNG at them, and yeah... my singing isn't very pretty.)

I'd love to find this song and get it or the lyrics for my grandparents. Here's what I remember... it isn't much..

One bit: "grandpa sits in his rocking chair... grandma is tired, silver in her hair.. looking back, I can clearly see.. they were the world to me."

Another bit: "cold winter's night, safe from the storm.. grandpa and me, arms kept me warm.."

And that's all I've got. It's a song that reminds me of my own grandparents so, so much. I'd love your help if you recognize it?
