I found Down East Books in Jeff Herman's book, also have a division Countrysport Press. They are in Maine... looks good from the short blurb in the book, but they're not on Predators and Editors. Anyone know the publisher or do business with them?
Thanks! -Laura

I did a search of "Down East Books" and "scam" and didn't turn up anything.

Their website looks good, and the submission guidelines don't make glowing promises of fame and fortune.

Author guidelines: "Please note that a fully developed regional connection is critical in our fiction titles, too, and we do not as a rule publish collections of family lore or family recipes.

And one of their HC short story collections won an IPPY award. https://secure.downeast.com/deb/product_info.php/products_id/1088

They seem to be okay. If your work is set in Maine...good luck!

Thanks!
They are low on my list because of circulation concerns, but since they publish stuff set in New England it may work if all else fails.

They publish Down East Magazine, and are very well respected.

They are very small, and very much Maine centric.
