The veiled insults in that post are not, IMHO, doing the Author's Guild any favors. They could have made the same points without the jabs.

After Googling it, think I'll be staying away from both groups.

Two groups with very different views, but both with highly motivated agendas.

The Author's Guild still seemed trapped in a bygone age of publishing.

The Author's Alliance seem driven by a political motivation to change copyright laws to suit its academia base.

Both groups seem completely out of touch with the representation of authors' interests.

That was kind of the impression I came up with when reading just a few posts from either side. I would expect most authors to be somewhere in between. I would hope that a good author's group would support the author in the strategy they choose to use--not trumpeting a 'one true way' to be a professional writer.
