Katie Couric apparently to leave CBS news three years before the end of her contract:

Let us all celebrate, especially Walter Cronkite. Katie Couric is without question the most dreadful choice ever made for a major network news anchor, a smiley cute face from morning TV utterly unqualified by background or ability to handle a major news operation. This lack of ability became apparent about two minutes into her public appearance in the job, and deteriorated from there. Worse yet, CBS has a long history of good female correspondents at high levels (Leslie Stahl comes to mind), whom they passed over to hire somebody with really good teeth and a cute haircut. Let's send Katie back to interviewing celebs about the devilish antics of their pet ferrets.

I hate to say this, I really do. Because I was very excited to see a woman as an evening news anchor. But I have to agree that CBS made the wrong pick. I hope they replace her with another woman--I like that side of it--but Campbell Brown, Diane Sawyer, Christiane Amanpour all seem like more appropriate choices.
Bye Katie! Hugs! I hope you find a better fit in your next position. :)

Christiane Amanpour is fabulous. She's so good as a field reporter, in fact, that I think I'd not like to see her become an anchor. She's simply the best there is at what she does now. Nobody else, male or female, is even close.

And Leslie Stahl ain't exactly a dog.
The only problem I have with her is that during the 1992 Republican Convention, Larry "Bud" Melman reported on Letterman that "Leslie Stahl came up and pinched me on the ass!" So now when I see her, that's what I think of.
Actually, I think she's better looking than Katie Couric. Not that I ever consider such things...

I've always liked Connie Chung, she's both smart AND hot.

I always liked Ms Couric in her previous work ... but I have to agree she was wrong as a news anchor. The role made her stiff and overly formal, where before she could be friendly, relaxed and conversational ...
I wuv Lara Logan ...

But ... she probably likes being action-scene dangergirl, where they shoot a her and the jihadists are afraid to look her in the eyes when she interviews them ... she'd probably pine away reading the teleprompter news from behind a desk ...
G'day, Katie Couric. Brave try. Just not your wheelhouse (?) maybe the wrong wheelhorse? The wrong dog-and-pony show for you!

Meredith Viera? Also, there was another woman in line for the job, but she was pregnant at the time, name?

Got it, she was Elizabeth Vargas.
