Judging by the expression on her face, I think Jenna told her about what goes on in TIO. ;)

SherryTex
03-07-2007, 02:44 AM
Her expression clearly indicates her first thoughts upon entering this world..... 1)Where'd my swimming pool go?
2) Who turned on the lights? It's bright out here!
3) Where did my magic rope o'food disappear to?
4) Who runs this joint? I want to speak to management now!

Baby girls, like the Goddess Athena, easily appeased, also like a goddess, more easily perturbed. Enjoy this lovely girl Jenna! You too Anthony! It's amazing how such small people can so completely steal your heart in that very first instant.

HI FRIENDS!!!

Sorry it took me so long to check in! I really didn't mean to make anyone nervous.

Long story short:

I had no idea I was in labor. When I got to the hospital, I was having contractions 3 minutes apart, but I was not dilated at all... for about 12 hours. We were fast approaching the 24-hour mark after my water broke, which meant that I thought I'd need to be induced or have a c-section... but then... WOW! I suddenly progressed really fast, and the doc said the 24-hour "rule" wasn't so important as long as labor had started. Got an epidural (best invention EVER) and had a totally great, easy labor aside from the pushing at the end.

That sucked.

I honestly thought I was going to die when they pulled her out of my body... I thought they had messed up and removed all my internal organs along with her. Bizarre feeling. But about an hour later, the world was again good and kind and I had my amazing baby in my arms.

I am so in love with her. She is a wonderful baby.

Here are some more pics...

I will do my best to update again soon (and with some better pics!)... I haven't had time to read through this whole thread yet (man, you people write a lot... are you, like, writers or somethin'?), but can't wait to. I knew you were pulling for us.

We are both doing well. I have a ton of stitches from two hemotomas (sp?) and tearing, which makes things a bit... uncomfy... and she had some mucus in her lungs that scared the heck out of us because she would gag and not be able to clear it, so we were not able to sleep at all because we had to be on the alert for that... but she seems to be A-OK now and is super-strong and calm and just wonderful.

Anyway, my mom's watching Sarina right now, so I don't want to take advantage. Love you guys so much... thank you for the congrats and for pacing the floors with us (well, I wasn't so much pacing as lying there). This is the coolest adventure ever.

Did I mention she's in the 100th percentile for height?? (Anthony and I are both short. Figure that one out!)

Okay, really going now.

BIG KISSES,
Jenna, Anthony, and Sarina Elizabeth

Congratulations to you and Anthony--she's a beautiful little girl.

Now, don't go hogging her all night long. Give Anthony the opportunity to rock her back to sleep after her 2am dinner. :)

Seriously, some of my most precious memories of my children when they were babies, are of me in a darkened living room in the wee hours of the morning, rocking them back to sleep after my wife finished nursing them. She got back to sleep sooner and better, and I got to experience pure joy.

She's gorgeous. Well done, Mommy!

Doesn't it feel great to be called Mommy and not Pregnopotomous anymore? Seriously, the best feeling in the world is when she sees you and her face lights up and she says "Mommy!"

You know that wonderful feeling you have when you are newly in love? It's like that EVERY time you see your child. Every single time. (Okay, except when the cops bring them home at 1:00 am. But other than that.....)

I think this about sums up motherhood:

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June :
My love is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while !
And I will come again, my love,
Thou’ it were ten thousand mile.

It is, it really is! :) I can't believe how much sleep deprivation I can stand and still feel happy. She's still doing that gagging thing every now and then, so we're still at the "someone has to stay awake at all times with her" stage, and I seem to be suddenly supercharged with the ability to do that.

I'm so glad to have this baby during the age of digital cameras... there are already at least 900 photos of her. Unfortunately, I'm on my laptop and can't upload the new ones yet, but you're gonna love 'em! She keeps getting cuter as her face gets more "formed."

Anne, you're so right-- Uncle Paul is in his glory. He told everyone yesterday about how he got to feed and burp her for the first time. He was so excited! And I got some great pics of that, too.

So... things are really good. I think I'll keep her. :)

Thank you so much for all the good wishes and congrats.

WildScribe and Expat, yep, she's big, but keep in mind what I said earlier: my labor was EASY. Easy! Never in a million years did I think that was even possible. If you add up the two times I was in pain (before I got the epidural and during the pushing stage), it was a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes of pain. The rest was literally painless. Some pressure, but I was laughing and talking and singing the whole rest of the time. I was on a real high, particularly when they told me I was 10 cm and ready to push, and I STILL didn't feel any pain. I just busted out laughing.

Be back when I can!

Oh Jenna, your baby girl is beautiful. And you are right about the big ones make easier deliveries. I had 5 kids and labor was short term with the larger ones. My smallest one was a 14 hr labor and, well, lets just say that was before the epidural and I was a little irrational by the time she came out. And I will leave it at that.:D

I gotta say, I'm surprised how fast the weight is dropping. I had gained 41 pounds... I've already lost 32 as of yesterday, and can squeeze into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes. This at least proves my theory that most of my weight was amniotic fluid and swelling (I didn't recognize my legs when they "drained." I have chicken legs! Never realized it!)

Jenna I love you for posting this!!!!!!!!! And yes, you do look fantastic. How is it you are not in your PJ's and covered in baby spew? Aren't you supose to be exhausted and look like sh*t. You're wearing JEANS!

You have some great pics. Does Sarina actually know what you look like or does she think mummy is a flashing silver (or black) box?

The pic of proud uncle Paul is a keeper. He looks so happy!!!

Oh Jenna! I just discovered you'd been posting here. I'm so glad things went well. Sarina is absolutely beautiful. Don't you love that serious self possessed looks of babies? Especially when they frown just before they poop? :)

Congratulations. I hope you have a lovely time.

I can remember losing all my water weight (from the edema because of the IV fluids) exactly a week after my first was born. About 7 lbs disappeared in one day.

Take care of yourself and take as many naps as you can. I don't need to say take care of the baby, because it's obvious she's got exactly what she needs--she's surrounded by love.

Just popping in to tell Jenna that I love your adorable daughter's name. My own little Serena is four. She was named after her Jewish Hungarian great-grandmother.

Here's a picture of another Serena on her birthday in December:

Now, I gotta tell you, Jenna... I've seen a butt load of babies in my 53 years... most of 'em were nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews - even some great-grands. I've seen friends' babies and co-workers babies.... but I have NEVER in my whole life seen a baby as beautiful as Sarina. And that's the absolute truth.

Congratulations on such a wonderful addition to the AW family. :)

And you are gorgeous too - not to mention daddy!

Keep those photos coming - I love em!
That Sarina babe has one heck of a fan club going on here. Sometimes I think of you two during the day and I get that soft warm feeling I used to have when my babies were tiny. It's such a precious time, isn't it? Treasure it, because it's fleeting!

And when Sarina is 16 and yelling at you for not letting her wear whatever the heck kids wil be wearing in 2022 it'll help you keep your sanity!

You better throw Ol' Boy in there, too. I showed him the pics the same day and he agreed with me. When I first told him how pretty she is, he just rolled his eyes in that man's way of saying, 'yeah, yeah, baby. uh-huh. thanks for letting me know, hon' But then he actually saw her, he said, "How old did you say she is?"

"Twelve days."

"Twelve DAYS?"

"Twelve days."

His reply, "My God. They're gonna be fighting the guys off with sticks. Big sticks. Guns, even. And she's actually LOOKING at the camera instead of snoring."

We decided she's got an old soul and she knows far more than either of us ever will. :)

Uh-oh. Sarina looks very, very alert. As a former teacher, I can tell you--she'll be running rings around her teachers.

Preschool scenerio:

Teacher: Okay, let's start putting the toys back on the shelves.

Sarina: Annie, that doll goes there, not here. Josh, the truck belongs there. Ms.Teacher, we need to read the first chapter of Jane Eyre. Charlotte Bronte is one of my favorite authors.

You're exactly like a friend of mine, whose son is now 18 months. She ended up weighing less after the pregnancy. Weird. Just don't lose too much weight, than you won't look healthy.

A little funny: She's pregnant w/ a girl and I'm trying to teach her son, Daniel, how to say his sister's name--Annika. All he can say so far is: Ka Ka :D

My niece developed high blood pressure 160/110 and has been in the hospital 3 days. They finally started her on pitocin and, last update, her water just broke. So, I am going to be a grand-aunt sometime in the next 12 or so hours.

Prayers and/or good wishes would be appreciated since the baby girl is at 35 weeks development. The the doctors say she's over 5 lbs. but will still be early.

Not much news except that baby Katrina will be here via natural or c-section in the next 3 hours. Last update Kira's (my niece) labor pains were 2 min. apart but she was only 2 cm dilated.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that she'll deliver without the c-section since diabetics generally don't heal well.

Thanks for the prayers and warm thoughts. BTW - I'm already a grand-aunt 4 times over but they are all on Mark's side of the family. This is the first on my side.

Baby Katrina arrived at about 9:45 pst. Both the baby and my niece are fine (I'll post a photo once they send one to me).

Mom went all the way through labor to the pushing stage and then they had to do an emergency c-section. Baby was presenting face-up and her heart rate was slowing with each contraction and not returning to normal quickly enough.

I can't believe that my younger sister is now a grand-mother (oh, my God, am I really getting that old? No, no that's not it, my sister had Kira when she was an infant, that's it).

Oh, Katrina came into the world at 5 lbs. 15 oz. (not bad for a premie) and 19 3/4".

WHEW - deep sigh of relief.

Judy: I'm glad I read this after the good outcome, because I got so nervous just scrolling down to your next post! Phew! How's your niece recovering? Is the baby with her or will she need to be in the NICU? Juuuust shy of 6 pounds... I'm sure she'll do fine.

Dancingandflying, thanks! Now if you could hear the adorable sound of her yawn and the way she smacks her lips together after she eats, you'd love her even more. :D

Wow!! I just realized that I never went back and read about half of this thread. I'm just about through it now. It cracked me up! A few responses...

My daughter wanted to remind Jenna that Sarina was born on Dr. Seuss' birthday.

THAT IS SO COOL.

I actually have a picture of the placenta from when I had Emmory.

Me too. And not for any good medical reason. Anthony just got really into things at the end...

We had a previous agreement. It went like this:

Me: When I'm in labor, I want you to stay by my head. Don't even look... down there...

Him: I'm so glad you said that. I don't want to be anywhere near... down there...

Then came labor. I'm in the pushing stage and the nurse says, "Hey, your baby has a lot of hair!"

Me: Get out!

Her to Anthony: Do you want to see?

Him: YEAH!

At this point I want to argue, but I'm... you know... pushing out a baby. So he looked, and apparently it all became fascinating to him, and for the next half hour, it was like he became the nurse's assistant. And he whipped out his camera and took (I am not kidding) 800 photos in the hour after birth, beginning with the moment the baby came out. Really, the moment. It's a slightly gross but awesome picture.

Anyway, when I was going through the pics later, I asked, "What is this?"

"Your placenta."

"My... WHAT?!!"

"I couldn't help it. I was taking pictures and the doctor threw it at me."

"He did not!"

"Well, it was sort of just THERE, and I wanted pictures of everything, and..."

Labor does weird things to people's brains.

And just so that doesn't sound too scary happening with no anesthetic, not to worry. You know how if you sit on your foot for an hour it'll be dead numb? More or less the same thing here.

I agree. I tore badly, but didn't feel it while it was happening. The after-effects have been pretty unfun, but the experience itself? I didn't even know I had torn until the doctor told me. And Sarina came out all at once, too... no "head, then shoulders" stuff.

Oh. And I promise not to post my placenta picture. I'll just send it privately to the sickos who request it. :D

Jenna, can you post a picture with her in her stuff Auntie Dork sent?

And I have a request for a tooshie pic if you have one. You know a great gift for grandma is butterfly pictures on a T-shirt. You take some craft paint and swirl some on a plate and dip her butt into the paint and stamp it on the shirt in a few places and make butterflies with T-shirt glue. She wont know it's her butt print until you tell her. The look on my MIL's face, priceless.

Baby Katrina is having some small problems. She isn't staying awake long enough to eat as much as she should; so they are doing supplemental feedings. And, she has jaundice so they put her under the "lights". But, her Apgar scores are still good. They still have her in the NICU but are hoping to move her by Monday.

Karen! You're so close now! How are you feeling?

The Doc has our due date at 11 April now - so a week or so...

I had my last day of work yesterday and am now bored of waiting. I want bubs out now. I want to meet him, see what he looks like, check out his little personality, stare into his eyes.

I've done all the me-things I can do: hair is coloured, eyelashes tinted, nails done, facial done. I've run out of pampering things to do. And I finished my book yesterday, I need to find another great one to distract me from this waiting game.

Last Thursday I was told bubs is engaged and I was 1cm dilated. I've had plenty of Braxton Hicks, plenty, so many that my stomach muscles feel like I've done a thousand sit-ups, but thus far nothing else. Maybe today? Maybe 4 more weeks? It is sooooo frustrating waiting, waiting, waiting...

Bump is getting really uncomfortable and with April being the hottest time of the year I am suffering in this heat. The water in the pool is far too hot and the air is much worse. Now I’m dilated I’m sure if I should even been in the pool – I think you can get infections if water, you know, gets “inside.” Aircon is my new best friend. Fans are good buddies too.

Hubs boss died last Monday - he had a heart attack and died. Boss was covering for David by going to Singapore for an important meeting during the week we are due. It has been a big stress finding someone else to go so he can stay here (and all the other stress that happens with the lead bloke on a job is no longer around to answer questions). We just reckon our little project is more important than a billion dollar oil and gas plant. It is just one more thing... But David won't travel - that is great to know. He simply will not go. Got to love a bloke willing to stand up to extreme pressure and put his family first like that.

Wow, she's already one month old? Before we know it, she'll be up and walking! *sigh* Finn is... *sniffle* I'm not ready for a walking baby!

Jenna, she is so precious! Seriously, one of the CUTEST babies I've seen!

And I have 5 nieces and nephews - so that says A LOT! :)

Congrats!

Katrina is out of the NICU! Finally!

Here's a picture from a couple of days ago. She's still so tiny!

Good to hear. Is she home then or in the other nursery?

She's still in the hospital but we are hoping that it won't be for much longer. She was 5 lbs. 15 oz. when she was born but I don't have an update. I know that most pre-mature babies loose some weight at the beginning.

She had been having lots of trouble feeding since she arrived 4 weeks early (before her brain was wired to nurse) but she's catching on. Well, I think it was 4 weeks early she got here at 35 weeks and my understanding is that they develop the suckle/swallow skills at 39 weeks.

They had her propped on a special pillow to treat her with the anti-jaundice light. They light their fronts then they turn them on their belly and light their backs. While she was on her back she was already trying to hold up her head and arch her back. She managed to roll off the pillows and turn over onto her side!

Enough - proud grand-auntie signing off for tonight.

Big hugs to everyone for asking about her.

Judy

I was just want to jump in. I was due on April 2nd. I'm still pregnant. And extremly uncomfortable. Can't wait to this baby is ready to come out! On the upside they won't let me go past the 16th so there is that.

Awww, Such sweet little things! I'll be joining the new baby crew soon with my 3rd, due May 16th. Here's to hoping the 3rd time is the charm and I get a little girl as well!
