View Full Version : Would Hillary Run as an Independent?

I've said this before and people have told me I'm wrong, but I think she has it in her to run as an Independent if she doesn't get the Democratic nomination. Do you think she'd go that far? Why or Why not?
This might be interesting to revisit after the Democratic Convention. I'm more than willing to eat my words.

Even she wouldn't stoop to that level.

I voted for Orlando Bloom.
But to answer the question, yes, I believe that she would do anything to pander for her lust for power. That specifically includes lying, cheating, stealing, blackmailing, and generally acting in a vindictive manner.

Hillary is so tied into the Democratic party machine that it would be unthinkable for her to leave the party. Even if she fails to gain the nomination, she's still a senator and remains a major player, maybe the major player within the party.
Also, she's a pragmatist, and realizes it would not be possible for her to win the presidency as an independent. She's not the sort who wants to be in the public eye for its own sake; she wants to be president.
Personally, I believe she also understands it would be bad for the country and she cares about the country, a view I'm well aware some will find laughable.
Bottom line: It will never happen.

I actually agree with this, rugcat. Even the part about her caring about the country. I just think she likes power even more. My only quibble. :D

If she is so desperate and doesn't mind to give the election to Mccain on a silver dish, she will

Actually I think she would consider it. She wants to be President very much and I believe she would stop at nothing to gain the office. I hope that I am wrong but I agree it is a possibility.

But deep down, Bill doesn't want her to be.
He'd talk her out of it, if she even thought about it, which she wouldn't. As rugrat said, the Clintons and the DNC are partners in crime.

I would hope Bill could - but it seems like Hillary has become awfully fond of wearing the pants in the Clinton family.

Ah, another Progressive Party?
I doubt she'll form another Bull Moose. I still think she wants the Dems to win and she saw what Nader did in the Gore election. Plus, she would forever be blamed for the downfall of Obama. She wouldnt do it.

Not even being Obama's running make and VP, and then running for president in eight more years???

It won't happen. Despite how you feel about Hilary, she's not "desperate." And I have to agree with rugrat -- I think she genuinely cares about the country, unlike a certain president we know... (JMO, of course).

Why should she?
She has been a democrat for years.
Almost before Obama was born.
But speaking of third parties, we do need one. And a fourth party, and a fifth party, and maybe even a sixth.
And then we can educate the country on what the parties stand for, and they can vote according to which party supports the policies they believe in.
Or, we can just leave it as it is now and everyone can vote like they have been. I trust the American public will choose the best candidate.
Haven't they always?

The only way to accomplish a multi-party system is to promote it, not by a phony vote but by a sincere vote, regardless of the "what if this person gets in?" rationale.
The only spoilers in politics are those that continue to promote the two-party system by being manipulative and calculating.

Yep. And these two take the cake.

 Again, tiresome....
I wouldn't mind a 3rd or 4th party system just so we could have some different choices in there. Would it make a whole lot of difference? Dunno. Still it would be intresting to see.
