View Full Version : So . . . tell me about your Valentine's Day!

I know not all of the world celebrates the holiday, but for those AWers who DO indulge in chocolates, roses and warm fuzzy sentiments, tell me what made your heart pitty-pat yesterday.
For myself, my hubby and I exchanged funny cards over coffee and then he told me to close my eyes. I felt thump after thump on my legs under the covers and when I opened my eyes there were seven . . . yes, SEVEN red hearts of candy. They were cute little ones, just big enough for three pieces. He told me that he didn't want me to feel bad about eating a whole box (:tongue how well he knows me!) and then I could have a box every day so Valentine's didn't have to end right away. Awww.... :Hug2:
I made him his favorite meal---lasagne, with five cheeses, fresh ground sirloin (yeah, I actually have the store grind up a couple pounds of steak) and italian sausage. It's three layers high, for over ten pounds of fatty, yummy goodness! :hooray: It'll feed us for more than a week or I might cut pieces to freeze for later.)
We were both too tired from work to really get excited at the end of the day, but promised ourselves we'd have a long luxurious day of snuggling and . . . other stuff over the weekend. ;)
He's such a cool husband. How about the rest of you?

Aww. Sweet! And that lasagna does sound yummy.
I'm divorced with no romantic prospects. My eldest son gave me a purple construction paper heart that said "Be Mine." He said, "You will be mine forever - my mom, ya know. Even when you are really old."
I tried to steal a hug and kiss from my autistic son for V-Day, but he just yelled "No, go away!" at me. :)

We actually had a nice one. He went to McDonald's (my big thing is not having to cook on holidays). We watched Ratatouille with the girls and gave them both little gift bags with a chocolate bar and a tiara inside. He gave me the Sweeney Todd soundtrack and I gave him an Avegners graphic novel, and we ate chocolate.
Oh, and opened these Valentine's Day crackers he'd bought. They were filled with shiny hearts, like made of shiny posterboard? And they went everywhere. I'm still finding them all over the house.

I went to my regularly scheduled writer's group meeting.
(hubby gave me chocolates and a really sweet card - I gave him a carton is his most favorite ice cream and kept the kids from gobbling any of it - we plan to go out to eat tomorrow after church just the 2 of us)

My amazing agent sent an e-mail with the news that a Spanish publisher went ahead and put one of my books into print without a contract. Oops. As a result I've a check on the way!
I spent the day dancing on the ceiling.

I got strep throat and a trip to the doctors office for Valentine's Day. But she did give me some lovely antibiotics. :)
But when I got back from the doctors office someone had left me a bag of Hersey kisses on my doorstep...no, I haven't figured out who they're from yet. I'm flattered and just a bit creeped out. Secret admirers aren't as romantic as they sound.

Let's see...we ate at home. I made pasta, and added red food coloring to some Jello instant pudding for dessert.
I gave him the book How Clean is Your House? (from the TV series of the same name) and some Aveda shaving cream; he gave me a Brooks running shirt. I made Doctor Who valentines for him and the kid.
So, not particularly high on the romance scale, but at least it's better than strep throat.

My hubby got me good.
The hubby and I both worked during the day, but when I got home I made him a card and added one of our favorite "love" inside jokes to it. (There's a video we watched that had this singing kitten and one of the lyrics was, "I love you...you're better than ice cream".) Then, when he got home he asked me to run to the store to get some smokes, but before I did, he wanted me to get his stuff out of the car that he'd left. So, I go out there, start to walk around the side of the car and in the trunk were all these balloons. I popped the lid and there were--of course--the balloons, a huge bouquet of flowers, two grocery bags and a gift bag. (And here I'd thought he wasn't going to do anything this year!)
I take it all inside and he has this ear-to-ear grin. He leaned on the counter and said, "Thought I was going to stiff you again this year, didn't ya?" I opened up the gift bag and inside was a bottle of German wine, a small box of chocolates, a Harlequin Blaze book and a funny card.
After dinner--which he cooked--I told him that I felt bad for not getting him anything and he said, "I have you. What more could I want?" Awwww!

Valentine's Day was great and I got an awesome gift.
I'd love to tell you what it was, but uh... I can't.
But, trust me. It was AWESOME!

The only better color than red on Valentine's Day is GREEN!

My husband's out of town, so I decided to party. I spent the whole evening snuggling with this gorgeous creature:

I had to work and didn't get home till 8:30p.m. My honey had bought me a lovely card that said all the things he has trouble saying in everyday life. He also bought me 4 new plants for my garden and a bottle of Vodka ( he doesn't drink anymore). We had fried chicken, my favorite, and I fixed myself a nice drinkie of my Vodka, which I needed after the horrible day I had at work. The day started crappy but my hubby made it all better once I was home.;)

Made 5 qts of veggie soup, a roast chicken with orange, and did a poem for my SO, enjoyed chocolate and Sarah Brightman CDs in return. We were supposed to go out but it was raining too hard to see.

I won't ruin everyone's fun with my take on Valentine's Day, but if you're curious check my blog.
We ordered pizza, attempted a chocolate fondue but couldn't find all the parts for the fondue set so we saved the fruit and made smoothies and banana cake.
I didn't ask for a card, or flowers, or chocolate. I don't expect them and don't require them. It would be nice if he cooked, though.
I used to jump through all the required hoops early in our marriage, but now I figure if we need a special day to prove our love, what the heck do we do with the rest of our days?
I'm glad everyone here had such lovely moments.

My partner and I are currently living in Ireland and the UK right now, so our Valentine's Day consisted of visits from the postman. ;) I sent her a DVD, Don'ts for Wives (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Donts-Wives-Blanche-Ebbutt/dp/0713687908/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203198455&sr=1-1), and some fudge, along with a card. She sent me a plushie Piglet (the original A. A. Milne design) that has a wind-up key at the back that plays the Disney Winnie the Pooh theme, a heart stick that goes into flowers (in lieu of flowers, which wouldn't handle the post very well, lol), and other little things.
I also sneakily ordered roses to be delivered to her at work, since she had never had flowers delivered to her before. And then we talked online that night when we were both finished work. Our Hearts Day gifts were silly and/or cute this year, since our anniversary is next month - the real presents are being held until then.
The flowers were really the only difference - we regularly send packages to each other and talk online almost every night. I don't need a certain day to write her a letter, be a ridiculous sap, and let her know I'm thinking of her, since I do it anytime of the year, but it was nice to have one.

Very early in the morning we cuddled and then, like, you know ... (we've been married for 17 years and it just keeps getting better ;))
Then later in teh day, with the kids all in school, we went out for lunch to a nice place, then shopping. We got candy for his mom since she had all of us over for lunch today; and picked out funny Valentines for the kids. They just love getting "real" Valentines. He also got me a box of chocolates and a huges bouquet of pink carnations.
The downside was, the car was in the shop and we had to take the farm truck. Although DH helped me with my coat and opened the truck door for me, I had to climb over the corn-planter gear box in the footwell. (I think he was taking it somewhere for repairs later)
We had a lot of fun this year.

Well, I thought my new laptop was my Valentine's gift. But later that night when my DH got home, he walks through the door with roses, card and candy. Since I was down with the flu, he got a weak grin and soft thank you. :)

We had a nice dinner at home on V-day, and wee were going to on a date Sat, but I hurt my knee and went to the ER instead. He took me for a hamburger afterwards. :) We're going to go on a date this weekend hopefully.
