OK, folks, we're about to embark on a momentous journey. Announcing the first-ever...
ABSOLUTE WRITE IDOL!
The basic jist: Everyone is invited to participate. The first round of "auditions" will consist of a writing sample on any topic/genre, 700 words or less. (Excerpts are fine.)
We need at least 2, and not more than 4, judges who will then choose the top 10 finalists.
From there, we'll announce a theme each week, and the finalists will have one week to write something related to that theme. The rest of Absolute Write will vote on their favorites, and one writer will be eliminated each week until we have our grand champion.
So! I need 3-5 volunteers:
2-4 judges, like I mentioned before, who will offer commentary and choose the 10 finalists, and 1 person who's willing to take votes by PM each week and count them up.
If you're interested, please post here and let me know.

Ok, I'll settle for veto rights on the jury.

Done!
OK, we've got Saritams8, Richard, and three seven on the judging panel, Melina as our vote-counter, and veinglory, if you don't want to enter, you can help me come up with the weekly themes. :)
More to come soon. I'm gonna set up a sub-forum an' stuff.
Thanks for volunteering!

I thought this was you volunteering yourself? :Wha:
Hmmm, can you be as mean as Simon?

I did, too. Three, honest, if you'd prefer to enter instead, no problem at all. Vein volunteered, too.

Actually that was me angling for selection rights on the judging panel in order to increase my chances of bribery.
And yes, I can.
Simon is adorable
That settles it then, I'll do it!
Jenna: PM'd you.

>>angling for selection rights on the judging panel
Ohhhhhhhhh. It all depends on where you put the stressor in the sentence. We were reading it like "I'll settle for veto rights while I am on the jury," whereas you meant "I'll settle for veto rights in choosing the jurors." I got it. Glad you're in anyway. :)
Details coming in the next topic...

So, if you're Simon, that makes me Paula and Richard = Randy? But, I want to do more than stand up and clap for everyone!

I WANT TO BE SIMON, you lousy talentless, god-awful wannabes!
Even your mother thought you were bad, before you were even born.

:hi: This may be fun and can I say one humorous write of fun things to literary critics pretending to be messagers from God? You know the ones that think that writing is a hobby???? Huh, huh.

:thankyou: I am glad that you have judges and I have tried posting my samples but can't seem to get it to do right but I will try again. Perhaps something else from my fertile little brain.

I see you have plenty of volunteers already but if you need any more, I'm willing to throw in my two cents.

I'd enjoy helping to judge this round, or any of the other ones. Thanks!

Perhaps we need to have an audition for Simon, too. (I've never seen it… all I needed to see was one commercial.)
I'm mean. Just ask any of the people I've ever thrown in the stockade.
I'm carnivorous (JD).
I'm over-educated (ABD PhD in English).
And I have a nice sense of invective and insults.

You still need a judge Jenna? :hi:
I volunteer my services for next year seeing as how I'll be ineligible as this year's winner. :thankyou:

Hi Jenna:
I'd love to be a judge. That is of course if I'm not a finalist which I hope I am. I tried to find out if they finalist were chosen but can't find out where it is. How are you letting people know? Do we have to check the board daily?
Thanks so much
