Hi-
This is my very first post, so forgive any missteps I may make. I am unfortunately tasked with something I am having trouble with. My boss wants me to come up with some "catchy phrases" about women and working. The gem he gave me was.."It's not gossiping, it's networking."
I've tried perusing some sites for inspiration, but everything I come across is very derogotory. I'm trying to find something a little sunny. Can any one point me in the right direction?

Welcome, jwt2005! You might want to introduce yourself in the Newbie Forum. As for your request, are you looking for humor? AW is broken down into different genres. Is this for freelance writing, non-fiction, etc.? Peruse AW, and see where your request will fit best.
i got nothing for you, jt. sorry.
i'm sure your internet searches will turn up something amusing.
also, you could try smoothing over the derogatory material.
most chicks will fall for it. :D
seriously, though, keep searching i'm sure you can find something usable.
or, try writing some of your own??

Yes, thanks. I'm writing humorous "lines" that go on novelty items like mugs and magnets. I usually don't do this type of work, but I need a gig. Hence my block. Everything I am coming up with is...well doesn't feel right. Truth be told I don't feel right doing this type of work...it's got nothing to do with the assignment.

Hang in there, we've all had "those" assignments.
Try the greeting card thread which is, ah, er, um...somewhere on AW! This sounds like a good fit there, and those folks are quite bright and witty.
Is this something your company plans to sell, or is it something the boss is having you do for "fun" as team gifts or something?

Thanks Jeanne,
The greeting card post will be my next stop. The big brain here thought it would be a great idea to churn out some tacky retro looking magnets and mugs that have "snappy" sayings on them for all the "working gals" out there. I can't imagine a woman sporting a mug that says 'I'm not gossipping, I'm networking" Ugh.

Well...honestly, I can see them as gag gifts, as something someone else buys to give as a joke. I don't know that I'd buy one myself...then again, if it were fun enough, maybe to give to close pals.
The big brain may be onto something, you never know. But, hang in there with it. Could be worse. Could be raining.

jwt, I'd recommend getting a copy of Comedy Writing Secrets by Melvin Helitzer.
