So, from another forum (this layout being almost exactly the same), I assumed I'd be able to see who I've repped and who has repped me by clicking in the User CP area. However, this does not seem to be the case. Am I missing something? Where can I see who I have repped? Thanks

As far as I know, you can't see who you've repped or what you said. The most you can do is click the little bells/scales thingie - if you've already repped the person for that message, it'll say something about you can't rep for the same message again.

So I suppose if you want to look back at who you repped, you need to keep careful records...

And while you're here:

You can't see a list of whom/what posts you've repped; as Ben says, you can click on the Rep scales icon on a post you've Repped and you'll see a confirmation that you have, indeed, repped that post, but you can't see the comments. You can see the last 500 Rep points worth of comments you've received in your CP panel.

I only see ten. Why do I fail?

You only have 53 posts so far. Trust in the Force, and you will earn more as you post more. Giving reps to other people is usually a good way to get reps. So is writing wonderful posts that everyone wants to rep, but even that isn't always a guarantee. (I've found that I've gotten more reps from witty comments than details, carefully thought out posts that educate and inform. :tongue)

You can also get more by joining a thread like the Obsessive Rep Point Checkers Club (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44734&page=676) (Sutble Hint :D). Or, ironically, by posting about your rep addiction in Cassiopeia's House of Recovery for Rep Addicts (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66638&page=88) once you've realized you can't stop.

I learned you get ten free points. When I was seeing eleven reps and 21 points, my brain was sad. Then I got told that fact, and my brain was happy.

Also, eighty-two as of this post. Yar!

I've only just discovered how to both view and give rep points, so I apologise abjectly to all those wonderful people who've kindly repped me and must think me the rudest person on this planet for not having thanked them or replied in kind! Without naming names, thank y'all! I shall now amend my ways!

What is the purpose of Rep Points? Is it to encourage people? Is there a "prize" once you receive a certain number? Are they just for fun?

And, as far as repping a post negatively, why would someone do this? The only thing it could possibly do is start a negative repping war between the two.

None of it's a big deal to me. I'm hardly obsessive about them. I just wondered what their purpose is and this seemed like a good place to ask.

I tend to think of rep points as the bulletin board equivalent of high fives. Certainly they can be used to encourage someone as well, since a personalized note can be added.

As to prizes - 10,000 or more rep points is rewarded by a personal visit by our illustrious owner, Mac. During this visit, which is not to last more than three hours or fewer than one, Mac will arrive dressed in the Disney character of your choice and sing two (2) show tunes (her choice) while in character.

She will also bring the pretzels. The host, however, is responsible for the jug of Makers Mark.

Most of us get fairly obnoxious when we're closing in on 10 G's so's the negative reps bring us down to a safer level.

I hardly ever fib. This may be one of them though.
