ok, people. I am feeling "special" again and need your help. I copied this from the Academy screenplay contest site. Please explain what it means. I want to know if I adapted MY NOVEL will it be eligible for entry.

Submissions must be the original work of the applicant(s) and may not be based, in whole or in part, on any other fiction or nonfiction material, published or unpublished, produced or unproduced. Entries may, however, be adapted from the applicant’s (or applicants’) original work, which should be noted on the application form.

what is it saying? That I may NOT use anyone else's published work..or not my published work, but my original work...does that even make sense?

I will complete a play this year! I will!
I think it's saying you can't adapt it from anyone else's work. You can adapt it from your own work, if that work is originally yours, but you must mention that it's adapted from your own work on the application form. I think it's also saying that it can be adapted from published work, as long as it's your own, and you state that also.

Make sense?

I think the wording is actually quite clear.

You can adapt your own novel into a screenplay, but they want you to tell them that's what you've done.

Don't use or adapt anyone else's material.
