NJRW conference?

Anybody going to the NJ conference this weekend? Well, Friday and Saturday?

I'll be there. I am giving one of the first workshops. That might be an advantage -- everyone is all stoked to be there, and so they're actually GOING to workshops instead of hanging out in the lounge areas. <G>

Anybody else?

I'm also looking forward to seeing some of my old college stomping grounds. Should be fun!

I thought about it, but don't have the cash (or probably the energy) right now. I DO expect a full report when you get home. Oh, and give my best to Susan Meier if you see her. She's going out tomorrow.

Of course I'll be bringing back information!

I'm going out tomorrow, too, and I've already arranged to meet Susan M. in the bar tomorrow night after dinner. <G> (I invited her to do dinner with me and few others, but she already had plans.)

My mom is going with me because hubby didn't want me driving all that way all by myself. She's exciting to get to meet some more authors. (I'm just her kid, ya know? <G>)

oh, yeah, I understand that "but I want to meet REAL authors" mentality. It used to be rampant around here, never mind that I was selling short stories at the time.

anyone who gets to go - Susan gives FABOO workshops! I attended one she presented at the Pennwriters Conference in the spring and it was one of the BEST of the entire weekend, hands-down!

I'm giving the SHORT version of my Story Superglue: Make It Stick with Readers workshop. That's the one Sheryl was just plugging. <Susan passes Sheryl a ten.>

Really, the workshop has a boatload of material in it, and I discovered that they made the sessions 45 minutes each! ACK! I was expecting at least an hour.

But I've given it a couple times now, and I know which parts to fly over, leave out, skim, assign for homework... <G>

I'm going to pitch it for National. Cross your fingers. (I'm going to pitch it as a TWO HOUR workshop for National.)

I'll be at the conference. Have they told you whether they'll be recording your workshop (and then selling the CDs)?

They did that last year and it was great if you wanted to attend two workshops that ran simultaneously.

I think they will. Please, yes, stop by or tackle me in the hallway or something and introduce yourself! It's great fun to meet people you know from cyberplaces.

(Well, most of the time. It's generally safe at writing conferences. <G> )

That certainly describes me, except for the year I gave a workshop and was the one talking furiously in the *front* of the room. Boy, do I talk fast when I'm nervous.

Just wanted to say that Susan's workshop was FABULOUS! Great info and she's a terrific presenter! Thanks so much Susan!

Just an FYI to everyone. I sat in on the editor's panel and when someone asked what the next "big thing" might be, the concensus seemed to be fantasy romance.

Thanks, Jen. I'm glad you enjoyed the workshop, and it was great meeting you!

D, I got to the editor panel late. <G> (You know how it goes - you get caught up talking to someone, and... <G>) The main thing they kept saying was, "If you've written a great book, we want to see it."

Helpful, I know. But I'm hoping it indicates openness -- that they really DO want to see all sorts of things, and not just the "latest hot thing."

Basically it seems like cross-genre stuff is really taking off.

I attended a terrific workshop given by Raeann Thayne about Page Fright which was enlightening for me. And for me, the message I kept getting was one for many of us:

"Don't let your dream die. Don't give up even a day too soon. Keep fighting for it."

I got there late (stupid traffic on Route 1) and I missed Susan's workshop (grrr)...

I sat through a great workshop given by Patricia Kay on Conflict and Motivation, and got to see Julia Quinn's dialogue workshop as well - both were fantastic!

Thanks, ladies. Suze, I hope you're right because I'm not writing a tradional romance this times around, I'm writing women's fiction and God help me, there's not a vampire in sight. In fact, it isn't fantasy at all.

Awwww... I wondered why I hadn't run into you. Damn Jersey traffic! Blech!

Thursday night my mom, another Super author Molly O'Keefe and I went to New Brunswick to Stuff Yer Face. Man, New Brunswick has changed since last I was down there. Funny, the city actually felt smaller, as in, more closed-in, more congested, tighter, than when I went to college there. And I'm sure Easton Ave. hasn't changed all that much -- it's just my perception of it. However, George Ave., the main drag through the city, has changed. A lot of different buildings there now.

Stuff Yer Face's Bolis still tasted the same though.

30 years later, that little place is still going strong. That was fun.
