I am not sure this belongs in this forum, but I think I will get the most responses here.

I was thinking about taking an editing class on-line but am torn because there is also a romance writers' class. Would it be bad to take both at the same time?
Romance class:
http://www.ed2go.com/cgi-bin/oic3/n...mance^Writing^Secrets&departmentnum=PW&path=1

Editing class:
http://www.ed2go.com/cgi-bin/oic3/n...^to^Effective^Editing&departmentnum=PW&path=1

I was thinking I could edit my WIP and turn in my WIP for each class!
These are continuing education and are not for college credit.
Each class is $90 for 12 sessions.
What do you think?

I'm always both writing and editing at the same time. I think all writers should be. Taking simultaneous classes teaching both those skills doesn't sound like a mistake to me. If you have the money and the time, GO for it!!

The classes look different enough that you shouldn't have the potential problem of conflicting advice. If they had been two fiction classes, I'd have recommended bringing new material to one and working your WIP in the other, if only because there is such a thing as getting too much critique on any one project.

Have fun! They look like good classes.

Yea, go for it. 12 classes for that price does sound like a good deal if you can afford it. And if the book is published this year, you might be able to claim the money you spent for taxes. I try to keep all my receipts for that reason. Of course, I won't be filing next year since I haven't made enough. I'm holding out till next year's income lol.

But anything you can do to improve your writing is worth it. So take both. Like you said, you can learn how to edit the WIP and then turn it in to the other class. Just make sure you take this knowledge through to your other books.

Sounds like a great idea. The only suggestion I have is that you do a background check on both to make sure they're reputable and qualified to teach before handing over your money.

The editing class will be really boring, so it's good to have a fun class to balance it with if you have time to do both. You mostly won't be able to use your wip for the editing class though, at least when I took that kind of class it was a "read a textbook chapter, find all the errors in a worksheet" format.

This is a great idea for me too, so I might sign up for the classes. :D Thanks for the info.

I think the pricing is really reasonable. If you can afford it, take both!

I've taken some online photography courses and found them really helpful. They did allow me to improve my skills quite a lot. I can't speak to these courses or even to online writing courses, but my experiences with online courses has been good overall.
