How long is a synopsis for a YA novel of 48K words?
Thanks,
Alice B.

If you're submitting to an agent/publisher in the UK then the synopsis is generally no longer than a page, but you should check the agent's/publisher's requirements.

This is for an agent in the US. I read somewhere that the synopsis should be up to 10 pages long. I'm so confused because I thought one page seemed long enough, too.

One or two pages, unless they request otherwise.

Yup. Shoot for one - no more than two. Good luck!

Thanks! I got it down to 10 pages and thought that was good. I will go cut, cut, cut. Or maybe I'll go back and extend my query letter paragraph. That may be easier because it's less than a page (guess that goes without saying).
Thanks!

Edit: At the risk of sounding like a college freshman...do I need to doublespace this 1-2 pages?

Generally, I think the less the better without loosing any important information.

No. Single space a synopsis

Thanks, everyone. Whew, I did it. 2 pages.
I have to say that this was *not fun* at all.
Thanks for the sage advice.

More Sage advice: Post it in the query section of SYW. I got so much good advice when I did that, & my synopsis is probably 100x better for it.
