I have it quoted and saved as some random writing, but I can't for the life of me remember if I wrote it or pulled it from some work. Does anyone recall these words from a short story or novel?

I'm stumped.

I have a hard wife who demands much of me, although we've been divorced for many years. She wants more. As though I had a kingdom of sheep and goats to offer.

The first year of our separtion she demanded my small pension. At first, I balked loudly at her demands for I was without a pence and winter was just a month or so away.

Not a clue. Do you have any additional recollections or notes to go along with the quote?
I think I wrote it, but can't be sure and I've been going through my stuff to see where it might be. But I lost a lot of work earlier this year that was on another computer, so I'm baffled. Did I write it as part of a short story or did I read it somewhere and quote it?

That's a good question right now.
I tried googling a couple of the unique phrases in it and came up with nothing, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Whether you wrote it or not, it definitely sounds like something you could build a story around.

The work might be from my lost stories. I just can't remember if it is or not and I have no way of retrieving the work at the moment.

I wonder if this has happened to other writers?

No, not exactly finding a quote like that and wondering if I wrote it, but once I spent a couple of days trying to figure out how I knew this one guy. His name kept popping into my head, and I could picture him clearly, and I knew he worked in construction, but I was like, dang, where do I know him from?

Duh. He was a character in my first book.

:welcome: I hate doing that because I rack my brains trying to come up with a name and end up leaving with "Now where do I know him from?"

My apologies. I was distracted by Billy and trying to follow the Haskins vs BoP thread. Please forgive me.
