this is for the points not the comments.

No. If we did, silliness would fill all the thre-- wait. It already fills all the threads. But it would be even worse without rep points.

Make them worth something. Like... free foot massages from Mac.

I love my rep points. Just try to take them away. You'll have to kill me and pry them from my cold, dead fingers.

Should we ban rep points?

Naw. It's too ingrained in the culture. Maybe instead we should add an additional point system. Let's call them "writerly points." These would not be available in any non-writerly forums.

On second thought, forget it. Someone would start a "writerly point" thread in the romance or ask the editor forums and screw the whole thing up.

*sigh*

Just as a practical FYI, I already tried to figure this out in the beginning, and there was no way to get rid of the point system without getting rid of the comments.

But carry on debating it anyway. ;)

I did see a forum where the rep points were set to 'XXX is on a distinguished path' and 'XXX has earned our respect'.

That was it. Two groups and nothing else.

Oh, that's true, Rll. We could kill the "levels." You'd still see how many points you had, though, in your user CP. I don't think people care much, though, ever since we got the blobs to be invisible. Except for that one blessed day when Mac and Charlie let us see our precioussses again.

don't bring up the blobs, Missy. I worked very hard to be their undoing. Don't make me dredge up the Blob song thread!

That was it. Two groups and nothing else.On AW, we can have three rep point groups; ‘XXX goofs off too much and hasn’t written shit in days’, ‘XXX posts way too much in SYW without editing’ and ‘XXX is learning the rules of writing, but has problems concentrating because they’re pissed popular writer’s write poorly’. I'm not sure which group I fall into. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_12.gif

Don't ban them until I find out what I get to be after "leaves a profuse trail of coolness." Because apparently, it will change after I get four more points.

You can't ban rep points because I'm still waiting for the opportunity to neg-rep someone who desperately deserves it.

I think we should start banning rep points, starting with Bravo. Let's take away 20 points a day from Bravo and see how that goes.

Dunno who Orlando is, but I do know that Google is Your Friend.

BTW, and I can't name names, but I knew an AW poster who was BANNED for starting a poll without including an Orlando Bloom option.

Ban rep points? Why, that would make us all pointless.

Is there any benefit in disabling rep points? Would it save bandwidth? Would it reduce harddrive usage? Would it save starving children in Africa? :e2point:

What would be the point. :e2shrug:

If it would help anything, you can delete my 12 rep points. I'd miss them. Most are Auntybug shaking her boobies. But if it is for a good cause...

Or we could all agree to give a neg point for every pos point. We could have twice as many comments and still not count up any points.

(There is no reason to try this out on me. I am a humble, mild mannered, sensitive bird that might just do something drastic.)

Has anyone ever given a point for a flounce? Now that would be a pointless point.

sassandgroove

But I like mine......

Ol' Fashioned Girl
09-12-2007, 02:02 AM
Since true flounces are almost non-existent, the effect of points given for them on the Balance of the Universe would be negligible.
