Thanks for the submission. It was very good.
We're scheduling it for publication in the October issue of Smoke Signals.
The story was "Breathing Lessons: A Vampire's Story" (a prime example of putting together two pretentious, derivative titles to make one good one).
I've dealt with Smoke Signals before -- with happy results -- but I knew a vampire story was a bit of a gamble. If it were accepted, I was hoping they'd take the hint and schedule it for October. All has gone well.
And I get $50 on publication. This is a dark time for me financially, and while I know one acceptance is no substitute for looking for a job, every little bit helps.
My only regret is that I won't be able to see the issue when it comes out. Smoke Sigs has moved away from print; it's on a pay site that's somewhat beyond my reach. Still -- woohoo!
I hope someday to be so prolific and so successful that I can take one acceptance for granted. That time is no time soon.
