published confusion

I did a search on Google and came up with my published poetry. Problem is, I was never told that the publication accepted my work. I submitted the poem back in May 2006 and it was just published recently. I have since sent it to other publications and have been waiting to hear back.
This just seems a little strange to me. I'm happy to get published, but I'd like to be notified (and I think I may have edited the poem since then as well).

ewwwwwwwwwww. Was it a paying market? Regardless of whether is was or not, no one can publish your work without your permission and a signed contract.

It was a non-paying market--a university literary journal. The site claims that they had all sorts of problems.
