Pages = Word Count?

Hello! I recently received a positive response to a proposal for a college textbook. I queried the publisher directly and was pleasantly surprised when I received the phone call. At any rate, my question is...

If the finished textbook must be between 215-245 pages, about how many words or manuscript pages is that equivalent to (with no images)? Anyone know the formula to compute this?

There's no way to know if you don't know the format of the text, and even then it would be a bit of a guess. Just ask the editor how many words they want--they deal in word counts as a matter of routine.
