I finally finished it. My first novel done and saved. It doesn't feel real!!! I've given myself a tenative two weeks for edits. I think maybe I'll be more excited when the second draft is done. Right now I just can't really accept that the damn thing's out of my head! Finishing a novel is the strangest feeling in the world!!! :D

Good for you! Yeah, I like to let a story rest before attacking it with edits, but do what works for you.

Great feeling, isn't it? :)

I'm with the others: take a break, gain some distance, so it will seem fresh to you in a few weeks. I was amazed when I went back to mine how much I wanted to change, and yet how delighted I was with other parts. It makes for an (almost) objective reading.

Congratulations, though! That is quite an accomplishment.

I have a few parts that I know will need some work so I might dive into those but then I do think I'll take everyone's advice and let it lie for a good two weeks. I know my brain is a little fried! :) Thanks for all the congrats guys, you mean the world to me :D

Brilliant! I've just written those lovely words, myself, so we're twins!

I had a lovely glass (OK, bottle) of sparkling rose wine. What about you?

Congratulations, Word Gypsy! Great feeling--also, as you say, a little bit strange. Hope you have a great celebration (and little time away.)

Barefoot is gross. Next time, we're getting much better (though still not expensive) wine. Like some Berenger, or my perennial favorite Riesling.
