View Full Version : Probably a silly question re: Word Count

Hi all,

I'm just preparing my first unsolicited manuscript package for a publisher. I've closely followed the guidelines on the website and prepared my first three chapters, cover letter and synopsis. I have rather a silly question- Standard Manuscript Format states that you submit using a cover page that lists the word count. Since this is only a partial submission, not the complete manuscript, does this mean that the word count refers to the number of words in the submitted chapters or to the word count of the completed novel? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Essex24 - the word count should be for the entire novel, not just for the pages submitted. Good luck.

Catephoenix is correct, they mean the word count for the entire novel. Good luck and let us know how it goes :) .

That's what I thought but it's nice to have it confirmed. Thank you both! Here goes nothing :)...
