Russian leader Vladimir Putin has made an astonishing bid to grab a vast chunk of the Arctic, giving himself claim to its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth. His audacious argument that an underwater Russian ridge is linked to the North Pole is likely to lead to an international outcry.
<snip>
Under current international law, the countries ringing the Arctic - Russia, Canada, the US, Norway, Denmark (Greenland) - are limited to a 200 mile economic zone around their coastlines.
Currently, a UN convention stipulates that none of these countries can claim jurisdiction of the Arctic seabed because the geological structure does not match that of the surrounding continental shelves.
<snip>
The claim is likely to provoke an outcry from green groups but there is also Russian opposition.
Sergei Priamikov, of Russia's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, said the notion was "strange" and warned other countries could make counter claims.
Canada "could say that the Lomonosov ridge is part of the Canadian shelf, which means Russia should in fact belong to Canada, together with the whole of Eurasia", he observed drily.

If you think this is bad, just wait until China makes it to the Moon.

Oh yeah??
Well I will SEE your North Pole and RAISE you the MOON!!!
You want the moon?? Bah! Try getting there!
If the Russians WANT the North Pole, they have to at least be able to GO there and build bases there. But I think they are very hard-pressed to even accomplish that much.

A Canadian Empire could be a good thing.

While interesting, the real action will happen down south. The third world war will be in Antarctica. Or maybe the fourth. One of them, anyway.

There's gonna be some sweet beachfront property up there, once this global warming thing hits high gear.
Oh, wait...it's all ice, isn't it? Nevermind.

Would December 21, 2012 perhaps be the correct date?

Pfft, that's the old date for the apocalypse. The new one is 2060, worked out by none other than Isaac Newton.

I find that hard to believe since 2012 has been the latest hip cool and happnenin'-now date for the apocolypse ever since the Big Let Down of Y2K. So if Newton somehow usurped 2012, he would have had to have PHYSICALLY been around at some point during the past 7 years. And THAT would make him a time traveler.
And I ain't buyi it!!!!!
:rant: :rant: :rant: :rant: :rant:
But ..... then again ......... I suppose that if it turns out that he IS a time traveler ............ then that would certainly explain his ability to see what happens in the year 2060.
Okay. So maybe I'll buy it afterall. Got anything else to sell today?

Hrmmm. Well, word has it that the evil Zionist Reptillian overloards are using HAARP and Tesla technology to control the minds of the fluoride and chemtrail brainwashed masses (the sheeple) in preperation for another false-flag attack (like 9-11, but with nukes) as an excuse for an invasion of Iran, which will in turn kick of the Final War against Russia and China with their 200 million strong army of horsemen.

Exactly. This is what I've been saying. Now everyone will see it's the Canadians and the Russians behind global warming, along with the Inuit Organized Crime mob.
Sheesh, and people think I'm crazy. Like a loon, uh, wait, that's not right.

I'm with Tour. Russia can have the polar bears. I'd rather have the penguins any day.

Well, if Canada started an empire, the US certainly couldn't stop it. We've already tried to invade twice and obviously failed both times.

Would someone PLEASE put a beverage alert at the top of this thread! My keyboard is a mess now. Sheesh.:roll:
And if Canada's taking over the world, can y'all do it at the beginning of August when we're on vacation up by Lake Couchiching? Then we'll be on the RIGHT side of the border. :D

Is there such a thing as a female cabana boy? However, you DONT want to see this saggy ol' broad in a bikini.
My teenager, OTOH, is on the swim team. They wear the longer Speedos. Makes me want to follow him around with a spatula and swat the giggly girls away from him. Motherhood is so relaxing.:rolleyes:
