Here's a new one - If they made your book into a movie, who would you cast as your main characters?

In Murphy's Law, the hero (Seth) would be Stephen Dorff (Blade, Cold Creek Manor) and the heroine (Katie) would be Kerry Russell if she would cut her hair short again and dye it red. ;)

My problem is that for some of my books I used favourite actors as physical models for the characters, as a way of being able to visualise them clearly -- and in some cases they're a lot older now in real life than they are in my head. :-)

So just say something like "Harrison Ford during the Star Wars Era." :D
I think Sean Connery during the 80's is my model for my historical's hero. Post Bond, but pre-playing everyone's father or grandfather. Hot, hot, hot.

My hero from my last novel would be Heath Ledger--only with color contacts to make his eyes an aqua color. Mmm, yummy. As for the heroine? I sort of based her on someone I knew, so I had my friend in mind, even though she can't act. LOL

My soon to be released romance has characters in their late forties and early fifties, so I would cast the hero as William Petersen (Grissom from CSI) and the heroine would be Virginia Madsen. The antagonist would be Billy Zane.

I love Billy Zane and it's so funny that you should mention him, because he would make the perfect hero for my current WIP. Not sure who my heroine would be though.

Ummm... Billy Zane... Yummy... ;)

Would it be odd to say that the heroines are always kinda just... me???

I went to college with his brother Randy. We had the same drama classes and were even in a play together. Little did I know....

Pierce Brosnan & Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio were in four of my historicals as siblings.

A few years back, to be sure. He looked quite dashing in the fancy dress stuff.

I "cast" my stories all the time.

I'm working on one now with a Kate Winslet-esque heroine and a hero inspired by Hiroyuki Sanada (http://www.tmsdancer.com/ken_watanabe/photos/characters/ujio_closeup_resize.jpg)

No, because I do the same thing with a lot of my heroines. There's always a bit of my personality in all of them. Those poor, poor women.

About a year after I finished my first book I was a little freaked when I saw Phantom in theaters the first time and saw "Pappy." James Fleet looks just as I've envisioned him. Even the style of clothes, hair, mustache, and soulful blue eyes.

About a week later I rented Timeline, and I saw "Joseph" in one scene via Gerry Butler. I mean it's him exactly. The expression on his face, the hair, eyes, beard. I don't see him in the entire movie, but a few times during one scene.

So I would cast Gerry and James for certain. As for the heroine.... not sure just yet.

First off, WELCOME! :hi:
Second, Gerry Butler is one sublime specimen. :e2headban He's the "star" of every Scottish romance I read, regardless of what the author uses as a description.

I know exactly what you mean! I not only give them some of my good qualities, I give them some of bad ones as well. :e2seesaw:

I gotta look some of these guys up!
In my current submission, the hero's a hockey player, and I use Steve Thomas (recently retired Leaf/Duck) as my inspiration. He's got the most brilliant blue eyes I ever saw.

The heroine, however, seems fuzzy to me. Perhaps that's why the novel hasn't been accepted yet.

People say that on author Karen Marie Moning's message board a lot. He's really popular over there. I've heard of at least 4 published authors on Gerry's websites say that they picture Gerry as their male MC's. They just pick a certain look from one of his movies and... swoon! :D I love him, too. He really is a great guy. I even made a "Thank You Gerry" MySpace page dedicated to him.

Thank You for the Welcome. ((Hugs))

Hmmm... in my first book, the hero (Ash) was based on Brendan Frasier in The Mummy. The heroine is a composite with a few of my good (and bad - gotta be honest) traits.

In my most recent book, the hero (Drew) is my "dream man" - he's not drawn from any one person, but his personality is strictly my husband's. The heroine is a composite with a few of my good and bad traits - go figure.

My current WIP, the hero (Hugh) is a dead ringer for Goran Visjnic (without the accent). He is just about the most perfect looking guy I've ever seen. The heroine, sadly, is not like me at all - but a completely new creation and she was a bitch to bring to life :)

Deirdre would be played by Julia Stiles with auburn hair.
Maya (Deirdre's mother) would be played by Julia Roberts.
Wallace (Deirdre's father) would played by Willem Dafoe.
Darcy (Wallace's wife) would be played by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Ruth (Deirdre's boss and confidant) would be played by Diane Keaton.
Lucy (Deirdre's counselor) would be played by Meg Ryan.
Liam (Deirdre's eventual boyfriend) would be played by Tobey Maguire.

Alexandra - Andrea Parker (I've always seen her that way)
Dharani - Halle Berry
The males would likely be unknowns since no actor around at the moment resembles any of them in the slightest.

I found her! I found her! LOL. I finally figured out who would play opposite of my hero in my current WIP.

::drum roll::

Claire Danes

So, we have Billy Zane as "Brian Maxwell" and Claire Danes as "Angel Parker". Believe it or not, it was driving me nuts not having a clear image of who my heroine was. :D

Cool! Glad you found that piece to the puzzle!!

I ran across an actor the other day that was perfect for one of my stories. I'm still hunting down his name. He played Coop on the last season of Charmed if any of you know him! Yummy, yummy guy! :D

I always have to find a "model" for my characters. I'm a very visual writer. I have to be able to SEE the person move. Here's a funny story about that. When I was writing MOON'S WEB, the second in our Sazi series, I picked a heroine who was Indonesian (because she's a Komodo Dragon shifter, and the islands are outside of Indonesia) When I created Asri, I wandered around the web looking for the right "look" for the heroine--something that would scream "dangerous," "sexy," and very much her own woman.

So, I found a news story about women starting new lives in Indonesia, and in one of the group photos I FOUND HER! She was just perfect--slender, but with a face I could see shifting into a dragon. Nifty. Wrote the book, and didn't think any more about it.

But then the publisher sent the first pass of the cover. Apparently, I described the heroine a little TOO well, because what appeared on the cover but the EXACT PERSON I'd found in that group photo. Not just a lookalike, but the same person (I know, because I asked our editor to find out the woman's name.)

But then they changed the cover because apparently the book distributors didn't like the colors or the models or something. Pity. I always liked the cover better than the one that wound up on the shelf.

So, here she is--for those of you who have read Moon's Web--Asri Kho, in all her glory (and the male model of Bobby Mbutu isn't bad either. Too light of skin, but not bad. :) )

A little OT, I know, but at least I know who to cast if the book ever makes it to the screen.

I made a story board kind of deal for my book. It is based on looks in the particular photo I found rather than acting skills...but here were the ones I decided on

Main Female - Keeley LaMarr - Photo: Younger 20's Liv Tyler
Main Male - Everett Drake - Photo: I found this totally SEXY picture of Matthew McConaughy smoking, totally Everett.

The secondary characters will be the leads in the next book

Secondary Female - Vivien Greene - Photo: Katherine Heigl (the movie Knocked Up, that chick)
Secondary Male - Jackson Ames - Photo: I found this younger photo of Huge Jackman where he has longer hair...and just SO goodlooking.

The third book will be about Jackson's sister (Vivien is Keeley's best friend) but I haven't gotten that far ahead yet. She won't be in the first book, so I don't need her yet.

Not exactly what you asked, but close enough I guess XD

Great topic!

Ophelia Moon - Kate Winslet
Samuel Reed - Daniel Craig with dark hair
Willa Reed (his niece) - Dakota Fanning
Stella Fitzwilliam - blonde Julia Roberts
Esiah Paxton - Liam Neeson

Oh, WOW! I already did this for my story....

My hero would be Oliver Hudson (Black Christmas, Dawson's Creek, TV's Rules of Engagment.) He just needs to be a little bit more buff to play my ex-boxer hero. And as for my heroine, it's Rose Bryne (Troy, Wicker Park, TV's Damages.)

And my villain is Rebecca De Mornay (Risky Business, Hand that Rocks the Cradle.)

They fit my characters' descriptions to the core. :)

Great idea for a thread! Well if budget wasn't an issue then:

I'd have Matt Le Blanc for Zak and Angelina Jolie for Kate

Billy Zane is too pretty to be a hero. Might mistake him for a heroine. haha...
