Which of the following is correct?

"The marsh water-flooded cave stank of decay." OR "The marsh-water-flooded cave stank of decay."
The second.

Or, better, "The cave, flooded by marsh water, stank of decay." Or, maybe better yet, "Flooded by marsh water, the cave stank of decay."

Which of the following is correct?

"The marsh water-flooded cave stank of decay." OR "The marsh-water-flooded cave stank of decay."
As you've just discovered, a long string of adjectives is often confusing and unwieldy. Break it up, as Ken suggested.

Of the two, I'd prefer #3. "The marsh-water flooded cave stank of decay."

Of the 3, I'd prefer you broke it up like they suggested :D

Feel free to ignore me, though.

Thanks. I went with breaking it up into, "Flooded with marsh water, the cave stank of decay."
