View Full Version : New mods needed

Hiya! Okay, with the addition of these new boards comes new openings for moderators.
I've weeded everything out so any board you see that has no moderator listed next to it really doesn't have a moderator. *Except Networking: Sharing Leads (Betty mods that board, but because she's also an overall forum moderator, for some dumb reason, I can't get her name to appear next to her board).
Happily accepting volunteers in this thread.
What mods do: Start discussions if things are quiet, keep people gently on topic, answer questions as necessary, delete nasty or spammy posts, move threads that belong in other sections, occasionally close threads if they've worn out their welcome, let me know if anyone needs a good banning. Mods need to visit their forums at least twice a week.
Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

Spook would do a good job keeping people at bay with her weaponry collection...

Spook, since I'm given to understand you had a great deal to do with Jenna giving us the new boards in the FIRST place--AND I think you would be an excellent choice for the Horror room--just for you, I would happily step aside and mod something else that Jenna needs someone for...Flexible, that's me :grin

Jenna, I came by for a few minutes tonight and wow! Genre boards!! Very cool -
I'd love to mod Christian writing, if no one else has asked.
Thanks - the genre boards will be a nice addition!

I could do goals and accomplishments or Writing Partners if you still need more people.
edit: Or, yeah....anything else that you think I could handle. I'm a good mod, I promise. I know ezboard pretty well. lol. That's not what the job really entails, but yeah. I'd be gald and happy to help out.

I'll probably never ween myself off coffee, but I don't drink pop at all. Could we agree on decaf tea? Then we won't get the jitters and accidently hit that big red button.

I'm up for the sci-fi and fantasy forum, and consider myself eminently qualified, due to my charter "Geeks of the Sol System" membership.
Plus: would you consider activating the "see active members list" feature of ezboard? It gives a link that lets people see a list of active posters, sorted by membership title, # posts, member name, etc. I find it helpful for finding a user's name if I need to see their profile or ezmail them.

APW *did* take second place in the biggest LOTR geek contest. I'm not sure if that qualifies them or disqualifies him, but there you go.
macalicious731
09-02-2004, 01:31 AM
Is that true, APW? ;) If so, you'll have Ruth (Yeshanu) right on your tail... unless she already made #1?
absolutewrite
09-02-2004, 01:33 AM
APW: What's the active members list? Is that something different from the "see who's online" list?
And stick around. Be happy to consider you for mod-ship if you can show me you won't skewer people and eat them for fun. And if you won't switch the letters around on your spelling so Ez-board won't recognize the profanities. :smack
(We have an audience of all ages and levels of comfort, so I really would appreciate if you'd keep the language clean.)
I do already have a sci-fi mod now, though. Pthom accepted yesterday-- I was just about to put him in the slot.

APW was on tv for his obsessive fannishness. It was a geek game show, and he took silver.
At least, that's what I heard. If I'm wrong, I'm sure he'll correct me.

Is that the "Beat the Geeks" show?? I only saw it once... the Friends episode. Their trivia knowledge didn't even reach the level I'm at! Amateurs!
(And yes, I have no shame.)

I only skewer people's spelling and grammar, and only eat ears when boxing.
And I'll do my best to curtail my language, but I WAS in both the navy AND the marine corps, and swapping the letters is about as clean as I get. Be thankful I haven't started inventing curse words here yet.
And Hconn is mostly right. The same company that invented "Scare Tactics" for Sci Fi channel did a pilot episode for a series that took a bunch of obsessed fans and tried to determine which one was the most whack. The pilot episode was Lord of the Rings
I got second for my preternatural obsession with the stuff. The winner made them lembas when they visited her home, where they saw the full-size "prancing pony" sign her husband had carved by hand for her, and the pictures of their aragorn/arwen wedding. The piece de resistance was when she was asked a question in elvish and was able to respond in kind.

Um... I think I have some boning up to do. :ack But if I'd been there, APW would have come in third...
Maybe if I find a deserted mountainous area where I can re-create Rivendell...

For APW and Yeshanu:
What if LOTR had been written by someone else? (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=7527f184756fe3ddaf1651bde402f3c9&threadid=138905&perpage=50&pagenumber=1)

Er.... OK. Not a sponsor. :lol
If there's not a mod for the Romance forum, I'd be glad to help out there. Yeah, in my intro I said I do mostly fantasy. But I've been doing some romance too. One of my fantasy novels (the main one in progress) is what I call a fantasy-romance, but some people seem to call it a paranormal romance. lol. Whatever works. :)
I have another romance (this one contemporary) in planning stages.

In the Writing Exercise and Prompt forum, would the moderator be responsible not only for normal duties of a moderator, or would s/he also be in charge of presenting the exercises and prompts each week?
I've got some great exercises and prompts that I have used in my classes and would be happy to moderate this forum if you're still in need. Let me know.

Joanne, I'll be really surprised if Ruth doesn't join us--(the mod from prompts and games) But she's a pastor, so her weekends are pretty busy.
BUT if you have exercises and games, get thee over there and post! The more the merrier!

Jenna's first post in this thread stating any boards without mods listed need one is from the old board. With the move, the mods have to register first before Jenna can install them in their old spots.
I knew there were still some openings, but give it a couple of days and all the mods that were should be here, too. Then you'll know what's really open and be able to volunteer.

I'd be happy to mod up a nonfiction forum... it stays quiet there and would love to be able to add some prompts when needed. The fiction one stays active and I always feel a bit left out, being a nonfictioner.

Thanks, gals! We are going to need some new mods, but I'm not finished transfering everyone over yet. Some of our mods from the old board aren't here yet, so I haven't been able to re-enstate them. Once I do, I will need mods for anything that's still open. And I'm happy to consider more than one mod per board for the more active ones.

I would be interested in an a sort of assistant moderator position.
While I've 'owned' several yahoo groups as well as moderated other groups, forums and boards on yahoo, msn, aol, ezboard and elsewhere, only one has been writing related. And as writers are a different breed (she said, brushing her plaid dots), I would like to have someone to bounce decisions off of for a bit before I tried to moderate all by meself.
If that sounds like something of the possible, please PM me.
