View Full Version : Say It With Style Week

So I'm shortly due to crawl back into my crypt, but in the meantime, I've been up all night, and I'm a bit bored--and it occurs to me that all the other rooms play nice games and do cool contests and stuff.
Then I come in here and it's all "The current cultural dialectic creates a conventional disregard for..."
and
<picture of obscure '70s TV character>
and
"Oh yeah? Yo momma, too!"
So I'm declaring this week "Say It With Style" week in the Politics & CE forum. Do something new. I don't care what. Compose a sonnet to express your adoration for a primary frontrunner. Use haiku to bludgeon each other into quivering submission. Script us a tense scene to illustrate your point like only a movie could tell it...just, y'know, do it in such a way as to earn major style points from the peanut gallery. Be creative. Write your asses off.
At the end of the week, we'll take a completely unscientific poll, and the CE poster who accumulates the most style points for the week gets a George W Bush bobblehead (assuming I can still find one on eBay...) or a nifty prize of equal irreverance.
Ready? Set...
Go!

Then who would fardels bear?

Does the bobblehead come w/ a shotgun? Toy, of course.
Just wonderin'.

My plan to win is to use random French phrases in all my posts, giving them a certain je ne sais quoi that other comments will not have.

Please note that poem did not have a single French word in it at all.
Merci.

What if we aren't very good writers? Do we still get points for trying?

Very pretty, but
Hardly T-I-O worthy
Take it in O-P

Oh, Haiku time. Great. Let's try one.
Mac's new rule baffles;
Asks us to stick the landing.
I stare at the walls.

Come on, Mac. We already did the mother of all games in TIO just a month ago or so (The "let mac determine your online persona for a week" ruckus). We're tired and cranky.

Hell, yes.
We already did the mother of all games in TIO just a month ago or so (The "let mac determine your online persona for a week" ruckus). We're tired and cranky. That was weeks ago. You don't expect to satisfy my deep-seated dominatr control issues once, then just coast on your, umm, laurels, do you?

They are *large* laurels.
:D
Ok, don't ban me... but there's not a hell of a lot that rhymes with MacAllister... ok?....
There once was a mod named macallister
Who danced through the boards like ol' Fred Astaire
With quips she was handy
she even once banned me
But don't saddle her with a big phallus there

The Lover of All Things Draconic doth say,
An interesting game, I wouldst like to play,
However, I worry, if I should get mad,
What happens if in the said process I'm banned?
The only thing, really, I thinketh to say,
This game makes me think, in an enjoyable way.
What hath this to do with Take-it-Ouside?
I don't know, but I thought it would sound good.

Anyone have that Civil War ancestors thread that I created for Haskins?
Can I use that for AW Style Week?

Take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves
The haunted frightened trees
Out to the windy bench
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow
Thank you.

Did you get that off of a grape jelly glass?
I'll tell you when you take me out to lunch downtown because I think I'm moving back to NYC.
NYC
What is it about you
You're big
You're loud
You're tough
NYC
I go years without you
Then I
Can't get
Enough
Enough of the cab drivers answering back
In the language far from pure
Enough of frankfurters answering back
Brother, you know you're in NYC
Too busy
Too crazy
Too hot
Too cold
Too late
I'm sold
Again
On NYC

That translates to...
"However beautiful I where morning other things are not liked everyday meet."
Stop talking gibberish, Tour.

We're looking for style.

Oh, you guys just reminded me of a special holiday that is very precious to me, coming up on Sunday. I'll set up the party in OP, but I suppose I'll have to wander over here to spread the festivity.
I won't be able to hand out REAL money in real red envelopes, but I'll think of something.
Chinese New Year. 2007 is the Year of the Boar. The special time of the year where I suddenly find lots of mysterious red lucky packets showing up.
YES!

Your problem, Mac, was your insistence that we guys have style. Except for the metro and beyond, most of us wouldn't know style if it took us behind the woodshed and beat us senseless with a rubber hose.

I had the flu, last week. This week, I mean. Both weeks, actually.
Panache was the name of a friend of mine's horse. He died last year, Mac. Interesting choice of words.

I give it to BoP. He's old and worn out, and blind, like James Earl Jones in "The Sandlot." So lots of people misunderstand him, but he's really kindly and gentle. And he wrote a lot of limericks.

Can we revive this thread/contest in honor of the French election results? You know, 'cause of panache and all that.
