Cat Stevens' music was and remains brilliant.

And his new album is brilliant as well.

The cat is back.

Allah bless him.

That new song is all we need to bring the whole world together.

I think he should change his name to Summer Breeze, market a perfume after it and donate all the proceeds to Cats or Stevens.

I think that was Seals and Crofts.

He should change his name to, "Moonshadow."

"Today yusuf islam, formerly known as cat stevens, announced that he would honor the recent fatwah placed on the life of controversial author salman rushdie by releasing a new version of one of his hit songs.

I'm being followed by a mad arab
mad arab mad arab
(falsetto) mad arab mad arab"

-- Dennis Miller, SNL Weekend Update, circa: 199-something

ETA:

That was my bad memory/paraphrasing. I now have, in my chubby little fingers, the actual transcript of that classic SNL episode:

And former folk singer Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, came out this week and said he advocated the assassination of Salman Rushdie. So much for that "Peace Train" crap, huh, Cat? ... Yeah, I could see this comin' years ago on his old album, Tea for the Killerman [Doctored photo of Cat Stevens' album Tea for the Tillerman] ... you, uh, you remember the big hit:
[sings a parody of Stevens' song "Moonshadow"]
I'm being followed by a big muslim
Big muslim, big muslim
[switches to falsetto voice]
Big muslim, big muslim
Big muslim, big muslim
[Cheers and applause. When the crowd subsides, Dennis suddenly starts singing his heart out with a slightly mangled but endearingly passionate version of Stevens' "Father and Son":]
How can I try to explain
When he do I turn away again
It's hard
But it's harder to ignore it
If they were right, I'd agree
But it's them they know, not me now
There's a way and I know that I have to go away
I know I have to go
[More cheers and applause. Dennis cracks up with laughter.]
Yeah.
[Cheers and applause dies down. Again, Dennis breaks into song, Stevens' "Wild World":]
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world!
[Dennis mimes the keyboard part and hums along.]

I know, same here. But I'm giving the younger crowd an excuse not to vote. ;)

Be interesting to see if the album makes the top twenty bearing in mind a flight was diverted because he was on it and he was expelled from the USA despite any links whatsoever with 'terrorism'

Ohhhh........ Deek why do I always fall for your reverse psychology?

Is he over his "I hate America" phase? 'Cause that really hurt his music.

And he should be Cat Islam, cause that's kinda neat sounding.

Is he over his "I hate America" phase?

We all go through phases, Whistle.

It reminds me of the time I hated styrofoam meat containers.....

....No flashback clip?

I thought we had a clip.

No?

Okay.

The real first step would be for him to call for ban on the playing of the Cat Stevens recording "Morning has Broken" at weddings, funerals and baptisms.
