I find the authors responses more illuminating than the prize, which has a slightly condescending air--they often choose excerpts that are clearly meant to be funny or ironic...

Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm not fond of condescension myself. That's why I'm glad the author took it so cheerily. I think it shows who the better individual is in this case.
