A Pentagon panel has outlined three basic options for improving the situation in Iraq --
1 pull out,
2 send more U.S. troops or
3 reduce the size of the force but stay longer,

The options have been dubbed "Go Home," "Go Big" and "Go Longer" by Pentagon insiders.

addendum: Notably absent is "Stay the Course"

Bush, as always, can't make up his mind:

I didn't know you were in the game, General Haskins.
Best wishes to you, sir.

And DrSpork must be a lieutenant or something I reckon.

I get paid nothing to make decisions, but those three choices would be obvious to anyone, and would apply to any situation.

Well, distinctly missing is the option to "stay the course".
THey say if we we don't pull out of Iraq, then we should either add more troops
and try to enforce a peace or reduce troops and plan for a longer stay.

I guess.

Hey, where's "1000 points of light?"

Show me someone on this board who isn't an armchair quarterback.

Even the few actual soldiers who have put in appearances on TIO threads about the war, are given a hearty,"thank you for your service, sir, but you have limited abilities to see what's going on!"

Everyone from BUSH on down, in fact, anyone not wearing a uniform in this war - is an armchair quarterback.

Anyone not risking his life for this endeavor.

It sounds like posturing to me, Greg. Syria's latest offer just seems too miraculous. . . .

I just like quoting "The Searchers" when possible.

Notably absent, because they were asked to come up with alternatives to the current strategy. Kinda like if I say to the wife, "Hey wife, can we name the clone Spork?"

She would say "Anything other than Spork."

It would be pretty stupid to then include on my list of alternatives "Spork."

This has something to do with porn. I'm not sure what.

Not to mention "Shock and Awe."

Hey, Greg didn't invent this. The Pentagon High Brass did. And maybe that's our problem: too many armchair quarterbacks in high places at the Pentagon.

Whatever we wind up doing, I vote we christen it "Operation Armchair".
