This is in news. Admission to university getting revoked because of a considerable drop in the student's grades over the senior year.

Senioritis!

Has this happened to anybody ever?

If it has and if you wouldn't mind sharing your experience; and seeing your comment on a national glossy, then post in a reply. I'll get back via PM.:)

Thanks

A few years ago the University of Michigan sent an update to high school counselors stating that they retracted offers of admission to a number of students who showed a significant drop in grades at the end of their senior year. If I remember right, it may have been five years ago.

I had two friends who had this happen. One was a dual-major (history, music) at Occidental, and it was in his sophomore year. Grades and attendance was abysmal. He had to take another trimester of work to improve the grades, and lost a scholarship he'd had, but he was reinstated after a trimester.

My other friend had a similiar problem junior year at Cal-Tech. He avoided the suspension by getting off his *** and getting his grades back up.

This is standard practice; it's also standard practice to revoke admission when plagiarism in the personal essay comes to light.

Yeah. Back in 1989, I had a girlfriend whose brother had been accepted into Harvard but then got de-accepted when they saw his grades from his last two quarters. He went from straight As to a mix of As, Bs, and Cs.

He actually was a really good kid, didn't drink or do drugs, and since he hadn't gotten into any trouble, it was a real shock. They told him in June too, so he went from looking forward to an Ivy League education to living at home and commuting to Rutgers (a good state school but not exactly what he'd worked his butt off for 3 1/2 years to get into).

It happened to a boy in my daughter's class in 2005. He was accepted at a University of California school. This system requires passing very specific high school classes ranging from 4 years of English to 1 year of fine arts, and the classes must be passed with a C or better to count for admission. He underestimated how much work he had to do to pass and got a D in one of the required courses in his senior year, so admission was revoked. This was not a case of general grades dropping and the individual being re-evaluated, but of failing to complete the requirements for UC admission. I understand this is not uncommon and happens to a handful of kids every year. I have read that with more kids applying for early admission and getting acceptances before Chirstmas, the problem of grade slide year is getting worse.
