View Full Version : Have you been bangalored?
English is wonderful! It can take in so many new words. I like this new one:
To be bangalored, yet to find mention in a dictionary, reflects the sentiments of those who have been laid off in the U.S. because their jobs have moved to Bangalore. “I am a software developer who is about to be bangalored.

But what will that verb transform to, now that Bangalore is Bengaluru? (http://in.news.yahoo.com/051212/43/61iag.html) I wonder. ;)

Oh, yeah. Same thing!
Just kidding. Isn't that where the mangalores are from; Bangalore? It's a wonderful word. Just lie down on the couch and repete it. Bangalore. Bangalore. Bangalore.

I love how Bangalore sounds. Bengaluru... eh, not so much. But then, I was one of the people who resisted the Bombay to Mumbai change as well. Wonder what'll be next. Not Delhi I hope!

Do you mean to say Bombay isn't Bombay any more? Good grief. No wonder I keep getting lost.

Yep, it's Mumbai now. And Calcutta is Kolkata. :D
As part of some work I am doing, I came across a website dealing with this. I read it briefly, but the gist appears that there now seems a strong groundswell of sentiment in India to 'reclaim' the names of Indian cities, and convert them into names derived from the local language (?). Some see it as the 'final nail in the coffin' for India's British colonial history.

And Bharat?

And Bharat?
No, that's just another name for India. The Hindi version.
