EXT. ABANDONED DRIVE IN – PLYMOUTH MASS - NIGHT
Weeds and grass fight through neglected pavement, dimpled and bulged for acres. A SUV crawls through the ROWS of iron scarecrows that once filtered sound.
Three massive movie screens, spray painted and overrun by trees and rust, look down at the lot.
The SUV stops.
INT. SUV
KELLEN MCMANUS, (35) pale white, like he’s been inside a casino for two years, white knuckles his steering wheel like he's about to do nine seconds on a bull.
EXT. DRIVE IN
It’s high noon for Kellen. In front of him two serious men, dressed like Wall street but raised like Gotti.
AL THE GHORD, (50s) named for the many deformities in his head, hardly ever talked, hated everyone.
And his cousin, BENNY DELTONE, (40s) slick, smart, aggressive; if arrogance was currency he’d be Bill Gates.
Kellen basically chokes out the words.
KELLEN
Pretty far out here… almost
didn’t find it.
BENNY
You can see the radio tower
for ten miles.
KELLEN
That’s… that’s what I followed.
Ghord gives him a ‘I’ll bite you’re ear off look.
BENNY
Got a vision for a mall. Not
just an ordinary mall, but
a mall Extravaganza.
KELLEN
That’s what we need, more malls.
BENNY
I’m a herder. Get them in one
place, supply the bells and
whistles and they spend. Like
pigs, they eat at the trough
to the foods gone.
Kellen takes out an envelope from his pocket.
KELLEN
Got it all.
BENNY
You growing a money tree?
KELLEN
Had some luck in Vegas.
BENNY
You lucky…? Sounds like
a story.
Benny hands the envelope to the Ghord.
BENNY
Guys like you don’t get
lucky, they get creative.
KELLEN
I gotta get going Benny.
BENNY
Hold on. Want you
to see something. Come here.
Kellen reluctantly gets closer to their car, where the Ghord has taken out a hundred dollar bill from the envelope.
BENNY
I get suspicious when guys
start going against their
personality – against who
they are. Even if they go my way.
The Ghord pulls a kit out from his coat. There’s a growing feeling of doom building.
KELLEN
What’s that?
BENNY
Picked it up from the CSI show.
Great show for criminials.
The Ghord takes out a vile and a syringe filled with a clear substance. He dips two drops on the bill.
BENNY
You know how when something
happens… something just random,
that starts filling in the
blanks to other things you
didn’t’ even think needed
explaining...?
The hundred, starts turning yellow. Brighter and brighter.
BENNY
We don’t need no stinking badges.
Yellow is no good my friend.
Something JOLTS Kellen – like electricity. He goes down in a heap.
BENNY
You been handing me fake money.
Really good fake money, so
that means you had help.
Kellen can barely breathe let alone think.
KELLEN
jesus Benny. I got those
from the desert.
Benny holds out a ‘tazer’ like device.
BENNY
This thing won’t leave a bruise.
It’s clean. Cop issue… well,
under the radar issue. Means
I can light someone up and he
can still go back to the
office and nobody’s the wiser.
Except me and my client.
The Ghords laughing.
BENNY
Who made them?
KELLEN
Christ Benny. I don’t know.
Kellen’s writhing in pain.
BENNY
I have a rule, and I always
keep to it no matter how much
I want to kill someone.
KELLEN
Please.
BENNY
Answer this right, I mame you.
Answer it wrong -
KELLEN
Ohh, jesus. Benny.
BENNY
Ready?
KELLEN
Yeah… go… @#%$ go.
BENNY
Where’s Eddie?
KELLEN
What? @#%$. Hell if
I know?
BENNY
You don’t?
KELLEN
No.
BENNY
That’s to bad.
The Ghord reaches in his belt pulling out a BIG GUN.
BAM.
