With Halloween around the corner--well a month. At any rate I wanted to get your top ten horror movies... here are mine, not in any necessary order.

(1) Halloween
(2) Halloween II
(3) Friday the 13th
(4) Texas Chainsaw Massacre-1974
(5) The Thing
(6) The Omen-1976
(7) The Exorcist
(8) Hellraiser
(9) The Shining
(10) Nightmare on Elm Street

Just was curious is all.. :)

You missed The Thing! (the John Carpenter version) one of my favorites just for the ending if nothing else.
I don't really have a top ten without spending more time than I really want to, but I'll also throw in 28 days later, House of 1000 corpses, and back to Carpenter for In the Mouth of Madness. Good one for writers, that.

A dark, evil place.
You left out Night of the Living Dead (original). My all time favorite.

I still watch it whenever I'm feeling annoyed at the world. Great ending.

As to a top ten:

1) Halloween
2) Salem's Lot
3) The Shining
4) The Exorcist
5) Alien (the first one is really horror first, sci-fi second)
6) Re-animator
7) The Other (NOT The Others)
8) Scream
9) Gremlins (hey, a little humor goes a long way)
10) Titanic (pure horror, every second of it)

Holy crap, that's almost exactly mine! I almost put in Re-animator except I would classify it more as comedy.

Dead of Night.

"Ealing Studios' Dead of Night (1945) is one of just a handful of 'true' horror films of British cinema's first half-century" --- from screenonline.org

I hate being restricted to ten -

The Exorcist
The Ring
The Shining
Jacob's Ladder (arguably a thriller with strong horror components)
Poltergeist
Shaun of the Dead (arguably a comedy)
Carrie
Aliens
The Others
Rosemary's Baby

(and since there were two that could go into other catagories, I get two alternates-

Final Destination (for sheer inventiveness)
A Nightmare on Elmstreet

I coud go on and on...

Most of those above are really cool, but I would add:

Nightbreed (although the monsters are the good guys)

The Amityville Horror (the first one)

Silent Hill (freakier than the game)

There are more, but I'm drawing a blank.

Alien and American Werewolf in London would have to fit in there somewhere.
