I have been reading S.E. Hinton lately, she and I write alike...I finally found a YA author I can read without killing over in bordom! Her writing makes me think you can write interesting for adults and Young Adults alike! I've been reading "The Outsiders", "That was then, This is now", and "Rumble Fish". I really get into her novels, they have drama, action, and down and out characters you can identify with and love.

I agree. I like her work too, and like you, my novel is a lot like hers. Does anyone know who Ms. Hinton's agent is?

I remember reading those as a kid -- we had to read the Outsiders for 9th grade lit class. Recently, my 14 year old watched the movie with me one night on TBS, and she loved it. Even though the story is set in the 1950s, the problems that teens have to deal with -- societal class issues, hating your parents, dealing with the opposite sex -- are timeless.

My fiance watched it with me from a rental. We both picked out a new movie and then I chose a buck movie from the oldies. I said lets watch "The Outsiders" and he just rolled his eyes at the cover of the movie. He hates those oldies he says...the ones of the kid greasers and so on...I just shrug and say this one is good, you'll like.
We start out watching the others, boring...both of the new ones are totally horrid and boring. We get to the outsiders late that evening and start watching it. I say again, you'll like it, don't be so mean. He sits there, loving it the entire time, says lets buy the new extended DVD and even says Johnny is great since he also loved the Karate Kid. See...sometimes it takes a good oldie to make the night of the movies worth it!
BTW...we rented "BTK" and "Date Movie"...I hate all those paradies btw...and BTK was disgusting! and boring...!
My kids ate up her books...usually in one sitting. I have had them in my collection for eons. It was great seeing my kids devouring something that I loved as a kid. Timeless work, hers.

I love her books!
I wasn't crazy about the movie for The Outsiders though. I mean, it was good but Rumblefish was so much better.
Oh and Tex, the book, is amazing as well.
I read her books all within a week back in 7th grade. :D

yes, very accessible books full of crisp writing. "that was then, this is now" is an often overlooked gem.

She's my hero. Look for her in the movie. She plays a nurse! :)

She also appears as "Hooker on Strip" in the film of Rumble Fish. I haven't seen the film of Tex, but she plays "Mrs Barnes" there.
After hearing a film I remember coming out in the cinema described as an "oldie", I'll now go and lie down. :) Mind you, it was very deliberately retro in style at the time it was made - like a 50s movie.
I read THE OUTSIDERS, and then I watched the movie. The movie was okay, but the book was amazing! There are almost no movies that measure up to the book they were based on.
S.E. Hinton's an amazing author. I keep looking for more of her work.
