Hello All,
My name is R. Roberts-Mesta, also known as Kayama Bliss, Sista Bliss, and Bliss. I'm a mostly unpublished writer. :ack
I've been to the water cooler before and meant to come back often but forgot. I've been lurking for the past two days and realized it would be nice to introduce myself instead of just hanging about the eaves. :grin
I'm also a mommmiiiiieee, a Reiki practitioner, a photographer, a wife, a book lover, and a minister. I love to crochet, dance, listen to music, sing, eat (but not cook :rollin ), and make earrings.
I've been writing my first novel for about 4 years now. Not constantly, just off and on. ;)
Last month, my 7 year old daughter wrote her first book (in one day :clap ), and I would like to publish it (as well as my own when it's done).
I'm happy to be here with everyone and hope to add my two cents from time to time.
Peace and blessings y'all!
Bliss

Hey!
A warm welcome to you... I too am writing a YA novel, one word a day and I guess I get it completed in a decade or so ;) ... I'm basically a non-fiction writer so to write fiction amidst many freelance projects is a little tough here. And what do you mean by "mostly unpublished writer"?
Anyways, congrats to your daughter for completing her book!

...and welcome to the forum... if you need any help with that book of yours, there are lots of good folks here who love to share what they know [or opine]...

Hi Radhika (and everyone),
Thanks for the nice welcome. I'm feeling at home already. :thumbs
The first piece I ever submitted--for an inspirational collection of non-fiction--was accepted. That was back in 2000. I didn't submit anything else for another 2 years. Good thing too. After I read my piece in the book, I saw a gazillion instances where I could have done better. :gone
So I read more, wrote more, took a few courses, wrote more, began submitting and finally submitting more. Over the past few years, I've had a few more pieces accepted, mostly non-fiction and poetry, but also a photograph.
Looking back at my submission tracker, I can see that I submitted more in 2002 than in 2003. I can also see that I submitted in spurts, with whole months of no submissions at all.
So far, I've only submitted four times this year, and only this month. Two subs were flash fiction; another sub was a very short memoir-style for a weekly feature our local paper does; the last sub was a group of slogans for Ephemera, which I found here on a message board. All are paying markets.
Although I am not currently relying on my writing to pay my bills, I would like to be able to someday. Maybe what I really need to do is take time to figure out what kind of writing I'm best at and get at it with a vengence? In the meantime, I'm writing what feels good. :hat
Absolute Write and the Water Cooler are wonderful resources for writers. I'm thankful they exist and I'm very thankful I found them.
I'll post my work on the appropriate board so y'all can help me. I look forward to getting feedback from people who don't know me. :grin
Peace and blessings y'all,
Bliss

Hi Arisa,
Thank you and good luck to you too. I'm speeding up "production" on my novel by putting down scenes (or partial scenes) every day.
Although I wish I had a laptop, it's easier for me to carry around a notebook. As soon as an idea comes to me for a scenario that fits the characters' predicament, I snatch out that notebook and write. Later, I type. :snoopy
I'm finding the more I write about the characters, the more real they become to me and the more I want to write about them.
Blessings to ya,
Bliss
