... a regular chat devoted to the craft of writing Science Fiction or Fantasy or both? We come from all parts of the planet, but I'm sure we could arrange a time somewhat convenient for most of those who would like.
Weigh in here.

Pthom, I make a mean Raspberry Cream Cheese Coffee Cake. If that helps at all with the snacks....;)

Okay, we have a dozen interested in a chat.
Now we gotta figure out when to do it. No doubt we're scattered all over the planet. I'm on the west coast of the USA (Pacific time or GMT-8). But I can usually find a time anywhere between GMT 2300 and GMT 0300.
'Course you guys don't need me. Just log into the AW chat room on the StarChat.net either using the java link on the top of page one here, or by using an irc client such as mIRC or Trillian.
So, for those of you who've expressed interest, what's a good time for an hour or so chat, once a month?

At the moment I'm free pretty much any time that isn't the third Tuesday of the month.
What time GMT is 9 EST/6 PST?

Sounds like you folks could probably give me lots of ideas for the current science fantasy I'm working on. At the moment, I'm on the 22d volume... Yes, I know that sounds terrible, but I'm enjoying writing it too much and figure I'll be on volume 23 in about another week.
Let me know when you decide to chat and I'll try to participate since I might have some ideas to give back.

It works like this:
GMT = 0 hours (midnight)
EST = -5 hours (1900 or 7:00 PM)
CST = -6 hours (1800 or 6:00 PM)
MST = -7 hours (1700 or 5:00 PM)
PST = -8 hours (1600 or 4:00 PM)
For EuanH, who lives in Thailand, midnight GMT is 0700 or 7:00 AM. (Euan, correct me if I'm wrong there...timezones in Asia are all screwed up.)
So when I say I'm available to moderate a live chat between 2300 and 0300 GMT, that's 1800 to 2200 EST (6:00 to 10:00 PM) or 1500 to 1900 PST (3:00 to 7:00 PM).
For really late night types (like me), I can be on later too (after midnight EST).
ETA: It looks as though there's a pretty strong refreshments committee. Maybe they can save me some hassle and check in on the Costco thing. Diana has informed me she'll do just about anything for a coconut macaroon. I wonder if they need to be home-made.
Those times look great to me, as I'm usually home around those times every day except Saturday & every other Wednesday.
Of course, I know it's not all about me... (what?! who said that?) :2angel:

I too am interested. I'm in Tucson, AZ, and we're on Mountain Standard Time and we don't do daylight savings.

I'm WAY too busy with my dynamic, exciting social life...
Um...
...now where did I put my bucket of cheese doodles, and hand me that remote! Grandma's Stories are on!

Those times are good for me. The days are sporadic, though. Ah, the life of a retail slave. :e2hammer: Tuesdays are the only nights I am always working (except for this week, because I'm on vacation! :snoopy: ). Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday I am always home.
Anyone else have a preference or days that are bad for them?
We should do it Thursday! Nothing happens on Thursday.
Until someone says they're busy then....

I'm good with Thursday.
Any particular week of the month? (On Earth, there are usually four weeks per month.)

**crickets**
I have an excuse, I've been away for the last couple of days. :tongue Anywho, I propose the second week of the month. Which will make our first chat on March 9.
Who seconds the motion?

I'll second that.
Thursday nights are about the ONLY night I have free between college classes, taking my daughter to "Fidos For Freedom", and my writer's on-line critique group on Friday nights.
OH, yeah, I have to fit actually writing in there. ;)

Second Thursday of the month it is, then. How about if we begin at 9 PM EST (conversions follow), see who shows up and go from there?
Hawaii ... Alaska ... PST ... MST ... CST ... EST ... GMT ... NZ . . . Sydney ... Bangkok
4 pm . . . 5 pm . . .6 PM ... 7 PM ...8 PM ...9 PM ...2 AM*...2 PM*...Noon* ... 9 AM*
*Friday
We'll plan on an hour the first time, just to get familiar with the process. If you haven't made it to the chat room, it would be good to check it out beforehand. Veinglory (and others who haven't been able to make it work), to use the link here in the AW forums, you must have the utility known as Java installed and running on your system. Or, you could download an IRC chat client such as mIRC, PIRCH or Trillian and use that. If you are still having trouble, PM me here and we'll get you squared away.
See you all in the chat room, Thursday, March 9. :)

... is tomorrow,
Thursday, March 9, 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
(see my earlier post for conversions)
If you plan on attending (I count 24 who are in some fashion), and haven't yet found your way into our chat room, you ought to give it a shot. I'll try to be there by 8:30 PM, to help any who need to learn the ropes of chat.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Peter.
