I am an alumnus of Seton Hill University's Master's in the Writing of Popular Fiction program, which runs a writing retreat every summer called In Your Write Mind. I thought it might be something the AW writers would be interested in.
It runs from June 21-24, 2012 and is aimed at working writers (those who already have a novel, or twelve, under their belts). It's great for mid-listers who want to know more about the business or who are looking to move up the food-chain.
This year's flyer isn't up yet, but if you'd like more info, you can take a look at last year's flyer on the following page:

I know that they've had many cool guests at previous residencies. When I was a student there, we had Jennifer Crusie, Tess Gerritson, Orson Scott Card, Betsy Mitchell, an agent from Donald Maass' agency, a few editors from Harlequin, and more. Those are just the ones from when I was a student.
The MFA program that the retreat is an outgrowth of has many New York Times Bestselling professors who you will recognize. (Shelly Bates, Gary Braunbeck, Maria V. Snyder, Victoria Thompson, Shelly Bates, Nalo Hopkinson, Thomas Monteleone, Patrick Picciarelli, Anne Harris, Barbara Miller, Leslie Guccione, and many more) There are a lot of romance, horror, fantasy, and SF writers but all of the genres are represented to some degree.
The retreat itself was originally designed to give the graduates a chance to come back together and get re-energized. While there are many residencies around North America, few seemed aimed at writers who've already been published. Seton Hill's MFA program also includes a good deal about the business, and this is continued with this retreat. The retreat is now open to writers who aren't graduates of the program, but are more experienced in the writing business.
Because the retreat is an outgrowth of an MFA program, it is kind of a mix between a convention and a residency. There are classes, lectures, Q&A sessions, pitch sessions, and peer critiques. That said, the social aspect is also strong.
For more information regarding the administration side of the workshop, you can call the representative at the university, Emily Heinicka at 724-830-1005 or email eheinicka {at} setonhill.edu
For more information on scheduling, module topics or what other special guests are attending, you can contact the alumni coordinator, Donna Munro, at dmunrohchs {at} yahoo.com
