I have an old office binder file I want to open but can't. I have Office 10 and WP x5 and they won't open it. Any ideas on what I can use to open this thing?

You can "unbind" an obd file.

I'm not sure it matters, but what version of Windows are you using?

This might help (but it might depend on which version of Windows you have):

http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/powerpoint-help/open-an-office-binder-file-HP003084974.aspx

Notice that you have to download the Unbind software if you don't already have it. The "How" on that page is a link.

using windows 7, I did download the unbind program and install it, but it vanishes and can't find it anywhere on the dang computer even with a search.

Have you then tried the instructions given on that website to unbind the file you have?

I might have to look up something newer for Windows 7.

Yes, but i am using office 10 and windows 7, also tried an older version of works that I have, but dang windows 7 did not install the works part, it just linked it to the office 10 the Word on the works disk is old enough to have binder still with it, but ever so helpful windows . . .

Sometimes I miss DOS really miss DOS.

Does this file contain anything personal?

No, just an old novel I wrote in 1999.

Try a right click on the file and see if unbind comes up in the menu . . or open with and see if you can find the unbind tool

That was my first thought and the unbind does not come up, I tried a search for it and it doesn't come up either.

If you'd like, I'll send you my e-mail address and you can send me the file and I'll see if I can unbind it. No guarantees, of course.

This works:

(shareware)

My offer still stands.

You may be going about this the wrong way (as far as using Unbind). Since you only have the one file to open it might be easier just to see if I can open it for you.

If you want to pm me I can send the file to see if you can open it. My other option is to dig in the storage for my word 97 and see if windows 7 will run it but that wouldn't be happening until after the new year,

I appreciate it.

I'll send you my e-mail address by PM.

I may be able to open it . . . or I may not.

I got your e-mail, opened the obd file into .doc files, and sent you back an e-mail with the files attached.

I only tested one of the files. It opened fine in Word.

Well, for pete's sake, what version of windows and word are you using?

Thanks so much.

I just loaded Unbind as part of my Word program and then unbound the file; took about four seconds.

Did those files work okay?
