I found this site a while ago, but kind of lurked from the bushes for a long time. From what I can see through the windows, it looks to be a very vibrant and helpful community. I figure it's time I knocked on the door.

I love to read and write, but I don't think I write very well. My background is in semiconductor process engineering, and a bout of unemployment, and a nice financial cushion, gave me time to think about things I want to do, rather than have to do.

This lead me to trying to inject myself into the wonderful world of publishing, web development, and general slackery (I'm sure that's a word in some language).

I've been focusing on e-publishing, and trying to bridge the gap between self publishing and traditional publishing. Economists say that the most efficient process will win, but for the foreseeable future, it is a huge time and money sink.

Hopefully we can get to know each other a little better.

Here's me, my name is Dan:

Full disclosure: My dog is older than that now, but that's one of my favorite pictures. His name is Gin.

Hi Dan & Gin, welcome to AW! I see why you like that photo, and I love his name. And yes, this is a great place to find all sorts of info. Hope to see you around.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn? Hi Gin.

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Yeah, one thing that has intimidated me a little about these forums is they're HUGE. There are so many sub forums and areas, I don't know where to post stuff. Probably best to "reply" to threads until I get a better feel for the place :)

One thing is for sure, they're very well moderated.
